OVERVIEW
Project Overview
Buildtec Acoustics is proud to have played a crucial role in the design and supply of vibration and acoustic insulation for the Can Pack project—a busy, operational factory. Collaborating with Keystone Architecture at an early stage, this project demonstrates our expertise in delivering tailored soundproofing solutions that meet the unique needs of the clients while aligning with the architect’s vision.
The architect faced the challenge of creating a dedicated quiet space for staff to rest amidst a factory environment that could reach noise levels exceeding 100dB. The objective was to reduce this noise to levels suitable for staff use, ensuring a significant improvement in the working environment.
Project Details
The Can Pack facility has been an established factory for many years, producing substantial noise from both airborne sources (machine noise) and structural vibration due to continuous floor machinery operation.
Previous contractors explored various solutions but struggled to achieve the required outcomes without compromising results or exceeding the budget. When Buildtec Acoustics became involved, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of the noise and vibration issues and delivered an all-encompassing solution tailored to the specific needs of the project.
We worked within the architect’s design scope and constraints, ensuring the new structure aligned with the existing conditions while meeting the desired performance goals.
Addressing Acoustic Challenges in Industrial Spaces
The unique challenge of this project lay in addressing vibration from the floor, soundproofing the walls, and ensuring the roof was adequately insulated. Multiple models were created to evaluate the most effective solution.
After finalizing the design, Concept Construction Solutions Ltd was appointed as the contractor to carry out the installation. The work had to be performed while the factory remained operational, requiring safe working zones and adherence to strict specifications.
The Buildtec Acoustics Solution
Buildtec Acoustics worked closely with Concept Construction Solutions Ltd to supply materials on time, provide technical support, and ensure the installation met all specifications. By maintaining open communication and collaboration with the architect and contractor, the project overcame significant challenges and achieved a successful outcome.
Benefits of a Tailored Acoustic Approach
Optimized Sound Control: The solution effectively addressed airborne noise and structural vibration, achieving the project’s noise reduction goal.
Enhanced Floor Performance: By addressing noise and vibration at the source (the floor), the overall acoustic performance was significantly improved.
Streamlined Installation: The system was designed to be simple and efficient to install, minimizing disruption and ensuring precise implementation.
Conclusion
The completed project exceeded expectations, achieving an initial 55dB noise level (to be verified with a test certificate). The contractor found the system straightforward to install, while the architect appreciated the hassle-free collaboration. Most importantly, the end users now benefit from a quiet, dedicated space, contributing to their health, well-being, and productivity.
