OVERVIEW
ITP’s FlameOUT Block Standard flame-retardant vapour control layer was used for another major high-rise project in London as part of the wall system at Aldgate Place.
McLaren was appointed as principal contractor for the construction of Aldgate Place Phase 2, delivering premium rental apartments, high quality workspace, leisure amenities and retail estate. Rising above Commercial Road and Whitechapel High Street, the 136,000 sq ft mixed-use development comprises a 7-storey commercial building with 19,500 sq ft of offices and 8,000 sq ft of retail space alongside 26-storey building offering 159 build-to-rent apartments.
External landscaped space is included to the roof of the commercial building and public realm at street level. Designed by Allies and Morrison, the scheme also includes a gym, residents lounge, and reading areas, and a comprehensive upgrade to the public realm, with increased biodiversity and a focus on health and wellbeing.
ITP’s FlameOUT Block Standard was chosen by award-winning company, PIB Contractors, to provide long-term protection to the building envelope on Phase 2. Installed on the inside of the insulation layer, FlameOUT Block Standard’s high-performance membrane is enhancing the buildings’ air tightness and preventing moisture within the interior’s warm air from reaching the insulation. FlameOUT Block Standard’s polyethylene-based textile is compliant with all regulations including a Euroclass B-s1, d0 rating which meets requirements for fire safety in external wall systems. The product also provides excellent tensile strength in both roof and wall installations.
Marisa Schofield, ITP Account Manager, said:
“Aldgate Place is the latest in a growing list of high-profile projects which are benefitting from our membranes being installed by PIB Contractors. FlameOUT Block will control condensation to help to maintain the high quality of the build at this prestigious city location. The product’s flame-retardant standards are independently tested to EN 13501-1.”
The FlameOUT Block Standard is one of an extensive range of protective membrane solutions manufactured by ITP. The company’s diverse architectural product portfolio also includes breather membranes, roofing underlays, house wraps and ground barrier membranes.
