OVERVIEW
Timberplay Scotland Ltd recently worked in collaboration with Gillespies on a pioneering new development in Dunbeg, close to Oban in the Highlands of Scotland.
This development of 800 timber framed houses showcases cutting edge residential design, developed by MacLeod Construction and encompassing exemplary ecological principles. The primary objective of this project was to establish a new cohesive community, and planners recognised the pivotal role of doorstep play facilities in achieving this goal. Consequently, seven distinct play areas were created, all delivering different play opportunities for the residents.
MATCHING SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENTS
“We have a long standing relationship with Gillespies and were delighted to collaborate once again on this visionary development. The natural world has been embraced in all elements of the development, from the timber within the houses, to the fact that the play areas have been designed without artificial surfacing. This has created a very pleasing aesthetic for the play areas, a subtle colour palette that blends seamlessly with the beautiful landscape.”
EASY MAINTENANCE OPPORTUNITIES
With only a relatively small budget, the Dunbeg project shows just what can be achieved with well selected products and landscape led play design. Each of the seven characterful pocket play areas provides diverse play experiences and demands only minimal maintenance.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Huge thanks goes to all those involved in this project especially Gillespies, developers of the Oban housing development, for the unwavering support, collaboration and confidence on this project. It’s exciting to work with like-minded people who value the importance of play for child development.
