OVERVIEW
This prototype pedestrian footbridge needed to comply to stringent Network Rail specifications, so the team worked towards developing a method of construction that ticked all the boxes. Q-railing took charge of the full design, supply and installation of glass balustrade and handrails to stairs sections for the prototype bridge. Nearly 100 linear metres of Easy Glass Prime were installed, including edge protection and sealing of joints to avoid items being dropped onto live railway lines. This system was selected due to its flexibility of glass size and adjustability of panes, as well achieving the required 1.5kN/m line load. The balustrade allows for a clear sightline for pedestrians and rail workers alike, solving one of the main safety concerns of the previous crossing.
