OVERVIEW

Job Description

Public Plaza at Titanic Belfast

Job Details

Construction of Titanic Belfast® began in May 2009 in the Titanic Quarter at the top of the slipways where the Titanic was built.

To form the basement of the building, 80,000 cubic metres of material were excavated from the site. Over 1,000 secant piles and 1,000 bearing piles were used. The basement concrete slab was 1.1m deep. The first concrete pour covered almost half a hectare to a volume of 4,200 cubic metres. It was the largest ever concrete pour on the island of Ireland.

Work on the external public plaza commenced in June 2011, with the piazza paving beginning in September 2011.

Larsen provided their fast setting, flowing jointing grout mortar, Streetscape Eco FJM, to assist with the installation of the paving.

Titanic Belfast® opened on 31st March 2012 to coincide with the centenary of the birth of the world’s most famous ship.
