OVERVIEW
We were commissioned to manufacture, supply, and install twelve AdexonSC60DH smoke curtains at an education facility, in partnership with ORO Security. This retrofit project aimed to replace the existing problematic smoke curtains, which were not only failing to protect the building occupants but were also causing ongoing issues for the client.
Project challenges
The client’s previous smoke curtain solutions were unreliable and compromised the safety of the building’s users. Removing these faulty curtains without causing damage to the surrounding structure required precise planning. Our goal was to install a reliable, aesthetically pleasing solution that met the client’s safety requirements without disrupting the building’s visual appeal.
Project scope & approach
As per the building’s requirements, it was determined that the AdexonSC60DH smoke curtains would be the optimal solution for the building’s needs. We conducted a detailed on-site survey to assess the existing smoke curtains and identify any obstacles that could hinder the installation process.
Each of the twelve smoke curtains was custom manufactured, with dimensions tailored to fit the specific balcony floors. This included four standout curtains, each measuring just under 8 meters in length and over 3 meters in drop—requiring precise engineering and fabrication to ensure a perfect fit.
The AdexonSC60DH smoke curtains were chosen for their reliable smoke containment properties, which do not require side guides. This not only simplified the installation process but also preserved the building’s aesthetic integrity. Additionally, the curtains were designed with a galvanised bottom bar for added stability and durability, making them a long-term solution for the client.
Solution & results
The twelve new smoke curtains were successfully installed along the balcony floors, replacing the defective units without causing any damage or disruption to the surrounding environment. The installation process, carefully managed by the installation team, ensured a seamless transition from old to new, minimising downtime and inconvenience.
Conclusion
This project highlights our ability to deliver innovative fire and smoke curtain solutions that address specific client challenges while enhancing building safety and aesthetics. By working closely with ORO Security, Adexon successfully replaced a failing system with a certified, reliable smoke curtain solution that offers long-term protection and aligns with the architectural vision of the building.
