OVERVIEW
RECLAIMED BEECH FLOOR TAKES CENTRE STAGE IN NEW RETAIL INTERIOR
A reclaimed Junckers floor has found a new home at the newly opened Communique Wines in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Forming a central part of the interior, the solid beech floor was supplied by Hargreaves Reclaimed Flooring, our partner in our Reuse Scheme – an incentive we launched a couple of years ago to facilitate and promote reuse and repurposing of our flooring. Specialists in their field, Hargreaves Reclaimed Flooring lift and reclaim floors which would otherwise end up on landfill, then sell them on to new homes, making a large contribution to a more circular economy.
The floor that now takes pride of place at Communique Wines had a previous life as a high-performing sports floor at Dundee International Sports Centre (DISC). It’s a 22 mm thick solid Beech floor – one of the more hard-wearing and long-lasting flooring options available. For this project, the client and designer opted to keep the line markings intact, which adds individuality and character to the whole interior. As this is a solid hardwood floor, there is also the option of sanding it back to bare wood and refinishing it in a choice of natural/clear or coloured oils or primers and sealed with oil or lacquer.
