Riga ply or Riga Grip Birch Plywood for Bouldering Wall Constructions

OVERVIEW

When it comes to crafting high-quality bouldering walls, Riga Wood birch plywood stands out as an exceptional material of choice, combining strength, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Used extensively in bouldering wall constructions, our birch plywood ensures stability, safety, and longevity of climbing facilities, making it a preferred option for builders and designers alike.

The Strength Behind the Climb

At the heart of every bouldering wall lies the robust base provided by 18 mm thick, 13-ply birch plywood. Known for its exceptional load-bearing capacity and resistance to wear, Riga Wood birch plywood not only ensures the structural integrity of the walls but also dampens vibrations during climbing. This feature enhances the acoustic experience in climbing gyms, creating a more pleasant environment for climbers and spectators.

Only plywood with a thickness of 18 mm or more is sufficiently stable. Plywood with fewer layers or chipboard would break or splinter, making Riga Wood birch plywood a superior choice and is much easier to work with than other plywoods such as beech.

Innovative Design and Precision Construction

Blocz, well-known in the design and manufacture of bouldering walls, relies on high-quality birch plywood to construct walls that seamlessly integrate into existing architectural structures. The plywood panels, mounted on sturdy timber substructures, are precision-engineered to ensure even joints and invisible screw heads, contributing to the walls' polished appearance and structural soundness.

To enhance functionality, the panels are reinforced with galvanized steel t-nuts, strategically placed in a 16 cm grid to allow easy installation of bouldering elements. For added durability, a quartz sand coating seals the plywood surface, ensuring long-term performance and resistance to environmental factors. This coating also provides a consistent texture, allowing climbers to enjoy an authentic rock-like feel.

To ensure precision, the material is cut with a 5-axis CNC machine which, if required, can be performed on our high speed in-house CNCs. For climbing wall volumes made of multiplex, an AI robot is used to sand the surface and edges without programming, reducing monotonous work by 80%.

Innovation and Durability in Climbing Walls

Designed with a vision for excellence by renowned route setters, Blocz bouldering walls combine striking aesthetics with functional innovation to create an elevated climbing experience. Built on a durable and sustainable foundation of Riga Wood birch plywood, these walls ensure safety, stability, and longevity for gym-scale and large-scale climbing facilities alike. The high-quality craftsmanship, sustainable materials, and thoughtful features—such as optimized lighting, ventilation, and escape routes—make every climbing gym not only a hub for adventure but also a testament to superior design and enduring quality.
