OVERVIEW
The Edge is a luxurious new student accommodation building in the heart of Belfast. Offering fantastic value for money, excellent location and flexible tenancy lengths, The Edge has been developed with students front and centre.
Ulster University is a one-minute walk from the front door, while Queen's University Belfast is just a short commute (around 20
minutes by bus). The excellent commuter links and local amenities mean students always have plenty to do away from campus, while the on-site fitness suite and dedicated yoga studio mean students can unwind and find their inner peace without leaving the building.
Completed in September 2024 in time for the new academic year, The Edge, like many new-build student accommodation buildings,
was designed and developed for the future, and this meant there was a need from the outset to conform to the latest building and
fire safety standards, including BS 9991:2024 and EN:50615.
However, what they soon found was that the cooking appliances in the open-plan living spaces were close to the escape routes. This
meant that to satisfy the safety requirements, the Architect (RMI Architects) and Fire Engineer (Joule Group) worked together to develop a fire-engineered solution. As a crucial part of this, they needed a reliable device conforming to EN:50615 Cat B that could be fitted to all cooking appliances.
