OVERVIEW
Harlow Glass completed the installation of a sleek, frameless glass balustrade for a new roof terrace overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The project required precise coordination with the main contractor and steel sub-contractor to achieve a fully frameless aesthetic without visible glazing supports.
To meet the project’s structural and design demands, Harlow Glass installed OnLevel’s TL-6020 structural aluminium base channel around the terrace perimeter, securely fixed to a secondary steel structure attached to the existing roof. This high-performance frameless glass channel, designed to accommodate 21.52mm glass, ensured a robust and seamless installation. The approach allowed for a safe, terrace-based fitting without exceeding the building parapet. Using a dry glaze system also provided a practical advantage, allowing for quick and efficient panel replacement with minimal disruption if needed in the future.
OnLevel played a key role in supporting the installation, supplying 70 metres of TL-6020 frameless glass channel, designed to accommodate 21.52mm glass. The package included pre-fabricated corners and endcaps, all delivered to the site within 24 hours of ordering. This rapid supply ensured the project stayed on schedule, enabling Harlow Glass to proceed seamlessly with the installation.
With prefabricated panels aligned to AutoCAD drawings, the glass was installed immediately after the base shoe, swiftly securing the terrace while expediting the overall project timeline. The final stage saw the new decking integrated up to the glass panels, reinforcing the striking frameless aesthetic and providing an uninterrupted view of the iconic London skyline.
