Victoria Hospital, Belfast chooses both functional and visually integrated louvre wall system

OVERVIEW

The Royal Victoria Maternity Hospital in Belfast has enhanced its facade with the installation of DUCO louvre wall systems. Two distinct louvre solutions were supplied and installed to address specific functional requirements. These include the DucoWall Classic 130HP, chosen for ventilated areas, and the DucoWall Classic 50HP for non-ventilated zones. Both systems offer seamless integration into the building’s exterior, providing a uniform, continuous louvre appearance across the entire facade.

System selection and application

In ventilated areas of the hospital, the DucoWall Classic 130HP continuous louvre system was chosen due to its high performance in weather resistance and airflow. Classified as a genuine Class A weather louvre, this system offers robust protection against rain and storm conditions, making it ideal for environments where maintaining indoor air quality and comfort is critical. The single bank design of the 130HP further allows for space efficiency and ease of installation.

For non-ventilated areas, the DucoWall Classic 50HP system was used. This system complements the 130HP by providing aesthetic continuity while serving as a visually integrated solution. Together, these two systems create a uniform appearance, merging seamlessly to meet the design requirements of the project.

Performance and design advantages

Both systems offer high airflow rates and excellent water resistance, which were critical performance factors for the project. Additionally, their sleek design and large span possibilities made them a natural fit for the architectural vision of the hospital. The ability to combine the 50HP and 130HP systems ensures that both performance and aesthetic goals are met without compromise.

Conclusion

The continuous louvre wall systems installed at the Royal Victoria Maternity Hospital represent a balanced approach to architectural functionality and design. By selecting the DucoWall Classic 130HP for ventilated areas and the DucoWall Classic 50HP for non-ventilated zones, the project successfully addressed both performance demands and visual consistency. This installation demonstrates the flexibility and effectiveness of DUCO louvre systems in a complex healthcare setting.
