Wandsworth Park London

OVERVIEW

Wandsworth Park, London – Riverside Playground Transformation

In 2025, Redlynch Leisure was proud to deliver a full playground replacement project at Wandsworth Park, situated along the picturesque banks of the River Thames. Working closely with the local council, we developed and refined multiple concept designs before finalising a scheme that met the site’s specific requirements and enhanced its natural riverside setting.

Design Approach

Given the park’s mature trees and scenic location, a timber-themed play environment was the natural choice. The centrepiece of the new design is a large, treehouse-inspired multiplay tower from the Lappset Flora range. This striking structure integrates beautifully with its surroundings and is large enough to accommodate multiple children at once—crucial for a busy urban park.

The tower features a variety of access points to encourage physical activity and exploration, including climbing ladders, arched climbers, accessible stairs, and rope elements. Two slides offer exciting routes back to the ground, including a large spiral tube slide from the upper deck.

Play for All Ages

To ensure the playground offered something for every age group, we divided the space into distinct zones:

  • Junior Zone: Features a towering 6-metre activity net, perfect for older children who enjoy climbing. It provides a panoramic view over the park and encourages social play through its large-scale design.
  • Toddler Zone: Includes a toddler-friendly multiplay structure with rope bridges, slides, crawl tunnels and more, designed to stimulate imaginative and physical play. This area is complemented by a Polka four-seat rotator, cradle swings, an embankment slide, play panel, and springer.

Inclusive Play

Inclusivity is a core element of every playground we design. At Wandsworth Park, we installed a wheelchair-accessible roundabout flush with the playground surface, allowing all children to play together. The swings include a large basket swing and a “You and Me” swing, designed for shared use by children and their parents or carers.

Surfacing

A combination of coloured wet pour rubber and TigerMulch surfacing adds texture, safety, and visual interest to the playground. This not only enhances the play value but also complements the natural feel of the park.

A Community Project

This project was a true collaboration between Redlynch Leisure, the council, and local stakeholders. The result is a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging play space that will serve the Wandsworth community for many years to come.
