For application to unsealed interior concrete floor slabs such as basement rooms, retail space, private homes and offices and other construction which are exposed to moisture from the underside due to faulty or missing damp proof membrane (DPM).
For application in fast-track construction where there is vapour barrier (DPM) installed under the floor slab, but application of the floor build-up is required before the concrete has completely dried out and the RH readings for the floor are above those advised for the floor finish.
During drying of concrete high alkalinity can become concentrated towards the top surface of the concrete, causing damage to some resin floors and adhesives. The VAPlite System is resistant to alkalinity (pH 13–14) and serves as a barrier protecting the floor build-up from the effects of high alkalinity.
In situations where a vapour open flooring is to be used, but the DPM is missing, damaged or status unknown, the VAPLite system, will create an effective vapour barrier, preventing elevated humidity levels within the room (a particular issue for basement rooms).
VAPLite is intended for basements, lightly trafficked areas (foot traffic only) and smaller areas where shotblasting is not practical. All components of the system must be used as directed including the Koster SL Premium screed. For larger areas, areas subject to vehicular traffic, and areas requiring direct application of the finished floor (without levelling screed) the Koster VAP 2000 I System (covered by a separate NBS) is recommended by the manufacturer and shot blasting (or Koster approved equivalent) will be required.

The Koster VAPlite system has been developed as a complete floor protection system for use in both basement areas subjected to hydrostatic pressure, and ground level or suspended floor slabs subject to short term or long term elevated relative humidity (RH) values. The Koster VAPlite system can provide a BBA approved negative side waterproofing, a quantifiable vapour barrier and a high strength self-levelling screed, all within a 10 mm build-up.
Controlling the water vapour within the floor slab will:
The VAPlite System includes the following steps:
Base coat:
For floor slabs subject to hydrostatic pressure: Polysil TG500 primer (impregnation) followed by 2 coats of Koster NB1 Grey, BBA approved negative side, crystallising, sealing slurry. For ground level or suspended floor slabs: Koster KB Pox IN, ultra-low viscosity epoxy impregnation to fill open pores within the concrete.
Vapour control:
All slabs: After 7 days, apply a single coat of Koster VAP I 2000.
Screed primer:
All slabs: After 24 hours apply one coat of VAP I 06 Primer (for non-absorbent surfaces).
Screed:
All slabs: Koster SL Premium, high strength, self-leveling screed is applied between 8 mm and 15 mm to provide a level, hard wearing surface to receive any flooring finish and protect the waterproofing and vapour control layers below.
System build-up:
Basement:
Above-ground:
