For application to unsealed interior concrete floor slabs such as in industrial and multi-purpose halls, offices, hospitals, schools, supermarkets, manufacturing facilities, airplane hangars, storage and retail space, and commercial and residential construction which is exposed to moisture from the underside due to faulty or missing damp proof membrane (DPM) to the underside of the concrete.
For application in fast-track construction where there is vapour barrier (DPM) installed under the floor slab, but application of the floor build-up is required before the concrete has completely dried out and the RH readings for the floor are above those advised for the floor finish.
Koster VAP I 2000 UFS is particularly suitable for overnight reflooring projects, where the flooring needs to be installed quickly in areas where the DPM is missing, compromised or status unknown.
During drying of concrete high alkalinity can become concentrated towards the top surface of the concrete, causing damage to some resin floors and adhesives. VAP I 2000 and VAP I 2000 UFS are resistant to alkalinity (pH 13–14) and serve as a barrier protecting the floor build-up from the effects of high alkalinity.
In situations where a vapour open flooring is to be used, but the DPM is missing, damaged or status unknown, the VAP I 2000 and VAP I 2000 UFS, will create an effective vapour barrier, preventing elevated humidity levels within the room (a particular issue for basement rooms).
The full VAP I 2000 and VAP I 2000 UFS must always be applied to a shot-blasted finish (or Koster approved equivalent). For lightly trafficked, smaller areas where shotblasting is not practical, the Koster VAPLite System (covered by a separate NBS) is recommended. This provides a negative side waterproofing, a quantifiable vapour barrier and high strength screed, within a 10 mm build up.

A one-coat, membrane-forming, vapour control system consisting of a combination of epoxy resins and other compounds achieving a very high interlacing density yet maintaining a very low viscosity to optimise saturation, and key to the concrete substrate. When using Koster VAP I 2000 the risks of failure in resin, vinyl and other resilient flooring due to osmosis or vapour drive can be successfully managed.
