Application

LiquiTEC is a fast-curing, two-coat, wet-on-wet system particularly suited to areas where there is a high degree of detailing, or when access to install waterproofing is restricted.

Description

Cold liquid-applied, inverted roof system suitable for new build, refurbishment and green roof applications. It is compatible with most existing waterproofing products, making it suitable for use as an overlay system. The system is appropriate for both new build or refurbishment applications for cold, warm, and inverted roof constructions. The system can be used as exposed roof waterproofing or as a roof terrace when protected by hard landscaping as well as extensive and intensive green roof systems. The system can be used in zero falls applications in protected roof situations.

Guidance for specification option:

A cold liquid-applied, fast-curing primer, for use when installing the Bauder LiquiTEC system over timber, asphalt, and bitumen-based substrates. The product is a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)-based resin, and requires the addition of a catalyst to trigger curing. It is solvent, isocyanate and halogen-free, minimizing its environmental impact.

Guidance for specification option:

It is solvent, isocyanate and halogen-free, minimizing its environmental impact.

It is applied in two coats, ‘wet-on-wet’, with a layer of Bauder 110 g/m² reinforcement fleece fully embedded in the first coat. The product is a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) based resin, and requires the addition of a catalyst to trigger curing. It is solvent, isocyanate and halogen-free, minimizing its environmental impact.

  • Coverage: 3 kg/m² (minimum).
  • Application temperature: -5 to +35°C.
  • Application method: Roller.
  • Rainproof time: 30–90 minutes.
  • Overcoat/ traffic time: 45–120 minutes.

Fixing

Loose laid (and suitably ballasted).

Guidance for specification option:

  • Setting out: Loose lay insulation directly on to the filter fleece over the waterproofing to brick pattern with staggered joints. Minimize cutting and avoid small pieces at perimeters and penetrations. Dependent upon the total thickness required, it may be necessary to construct the insulation using two layers of board. The manufacturer/supplier can advise on the available combination options.
  • Joints: Butt together.
  • Loading over inverted insulation (minimum): Ballast (landscaping) should be installed onto the Bauder WFRL Membrane (Water Flow Reducing Layer) to a minimum depth required to achieve a permanent minimum 80 kg/m² and load which prevents wind uplift and flotation of the insulation in high winds and/or heavy rainfall.
  • Additional loading at perimeters: On high buildings in more exposed areas, wind uplift may be a problem and in these instances paving slab ballast must be considered. Paving slabs should be a minimum of 50 mm thick. The slabs should be laid on paving slab supports of minimum 175 mm diameter (or equivalent base area).
  • All final details must to be confirmed with Bauder before proceeding.

Water control layer

Bauder JFRI WFRL.

Guidance for specification option:

Flexible and breathable sheet of polypropylene strands randomly spun-bound together, supplied as part of the JFRI Inverted Insulation system. Supplied as part of the JFRI Inverted Insulation system to minimize water flow through and below the insulation.

Bauder XPS WFRL.

Guidance for specification option:

Flexible and breathable geotextile membrane of polypropylene strands randomly spun-bound together, supplied as part of the Bauder XPS GG Inverted Insulation system. Supplied as part of the XPS GG Inverted Insulation system to minimize water flow through and below the insulation.

Bauder 100/60 GRP Trim Angle.

Guidance for specification option:

GRP roof edge trim for use with Bauder Cold Applied Liquid Waterproofing systems where the system is terminated at perimeter details, such as drip edges, watercheck kerbs or parapets.

 

  • Length: 3 m.

Note: The trim may be used either way round as required.

Installation:

  • The trims must be bedded in Bauder LiquiPASTE and mechanically fixed with corrosion resistant flush headed screws.
  • Fixings centres must be no greater than 300 mm with fixings within 50 mm of the ends. In high wind risk areas or above 10 m high, fixing centres are to be at no more than 150 mm.
  • The new trim must cover any open joint, which may exist between the kerb and the top of the wall by a distance of minimum 20 mm.
  • The reinforced Bauder LiquiTEC System is to be dressed over the trim to its full extent and past the edge of the downward facing edge. Once the system has cured, the excess is to be trimmed off to a neat finish.

Bauder Aluminium Termination Bar.

Guidance for specification option:

Natural finish aluminium alternative to a lead counterflashing, for use at upstand details to give protection to the top edge of the waterproofing. It should be restricted to use on upstands where a chase cannot be cut into the wall.

Black glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) alternative to a lead counterflashing, for use at upstand details to give protection to the top edge of the waterproofing. It should be restricted to use on upstands where a chase cannot be cut into the wall.

Bauder lightning conductors.

Guidance for specification option:

Lightning conductor clips are specially designed, secure clips that allow for movement.

 

  • Bauder Lightning conductor – Type 4: polyvinyl chloride (PVC)-coated or bare conductor. Bonded in LiquiPASTE, a PMMA-based resin that requires the addition of catalyst to trigger curing.
