A basic guide to resin flooring
Resin flooring is a hardwearing plastic surface, created by mixing a selection of ingredients to initiate a fast and controlled chemical reaction. The chemical reaction creates a highly durable finish, ideal for the heaviest-use environments.
The simplest form of resin flooring, a resin coating consist of:
As demand intensifies– typically resulting in an increase in resin floor thickness – the range of ingredients grows to include aggregates, pigments, decorative chips/flakes and in some cases, cement powder.
Step 1 – Primer
Most resin floors utilise a primer that penetrates into / reacts with the substrate to create a high-strength and reliable bond essential to the floor's longevity.
Step 2 – Bodycoat
The primer is typically followed by a main structural layer, often referred to as the body coat, which creates the bulk of the floor thickness and provides many of the key performance elements such as impact resistance, flexibility and compressive strength, as well as defining the decorative finish of the floor.
Step 3 – Seal coat
Most resin flooring will be finished with 1 to 3 seal coats to encapsulate the body coat and decorative element of the floor and provide the final performance characteristics, such as chemical and wear resistance.

Durable, anti-slip flooring
The Degafloor Full Broadcast (FB) System is a robust MMA resin that combines the durability and longevity of MMA resin with advanced slip resistance technology, achieved through the broadcast of coloured quartz aggregate. This system provides an exceptional bond to a wide range of substrates.
Simple to install in the harshest environments
The Full Broadcast System cures fully within two hours, even at temperatures as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius, meaning maintenance work can often be completed overnight, causing minimal disruption to business operations. Laid at 4-6mm thick, the FB is ideal for food production freezers or outdoor areas exposed to harsh weather conditions in commercial and industrial premises. Once cured, the FB System can withstand the impact of heavy machinery and is resistant to UV light, physical and chemical elements, as well as high temperatures.
Best in class for food production
MMA resin is rapidly becoming the flooring of choice for pubs, restaurants, and food processing plants. While vinyl and tiled flooring may be cheaper, they often require continual maintenance due to failing joints and seams.
These weak points pose trip hazards and create hygiene risks, allowing bacteria to breed and grow within the crevices. Installing slip-resistant flooring is crucial for employee safety and ensures a business complies with health and safety regulations. Degafloor knows all about the importance of this, being the first British flooring manufacturer awarded the HACCP International certification in Food Safety. The FB system makes ideal flooring in both industrial and commercial premises.
The FB flooring System is completely sealed, creating an impervious finish that does not pinhole or pore, leaving no place for bacteria to hide. This results in improved hygiene levels compared to other polyurethane options, which are susceptible to pinholing.
