Description

Ideal Work Microtopping® is a cementitious product, combined with water-based polymer to provide a high-performing micro cement system. Its calling card is its extreme versatility, in terms of its suitability for a wide range of substrates as well as desired aesthetics. Providing a popular, authentic polished concrete aesthetic for floors, it can also be applied in myriad textures for an extremely durable and sustainable wall finish, superior in performance to polished plaster or clay. With colour pigmentation from Ideal Work's Art of Harmony colour range, the system benefits from an infinite choice of possible colours, shades and tones including RAL, NCS, Farrow & Ball colour-matching.

Features and benefits:

  • Minimal demolition, if any. Microtopping is applied over existing as well as new substrates, including tiles.
  • Minimal depth. Microtopping is applied in just 2–3 mm.
  • No joins. Microtopping is applied seamlessly, without interruption.
  • Continuity. Provides a continuous aesthetic between floors and walls, indoor to out.
  • Is capable of a significant degree of flex, therefore suitable for raised access or suspended floors as well as rigid substrates, including concrete, screeds and wood.
  • Suitable over under-floor heating
  • Custom finishes. From smooth, variegated polished concrete finish to heavily textured and patterned, including stencils or other decorative inserts.
  • Matt, satin and high gloss finishes available.
  • Extensive range of product samples available
  • UV resistant.
  • BREEAM and LEED certified.

Installation:

  • Installed by experienced, trained applicators.
  • Typical installation time-frame is a 4/5 days for the complete application cycle, depending on total area and other site-related factors.
  • Hand applied, the aesthetic can be controlled.
  • Substrate requirements: The substrate must be integral and free of cracks or movement likely to cause substrate cracks, as well free from water ingress from below.
  • For walls, the substrate needs to be prepared as if it were going to be painted. More detailed notes on Microtopping® substrates are available on request.
  • Microtopping® draws its strength from the substrate, so assuming a substrate with surface strength of at least 25N/mm2, such as properly installed sand and cement screed or tiles, Microtopping® gives rise to similar wear and tear as a wooden floor.

Specification data - Cementitious wearing screed systems

Preparation

Assess suitability of substrate.

Guidance for specification option:

Horizontal surfaces:

  • Based on the type and condition of the substrate (concrete, sand-cement, ceramic, self-leveling), this must be prepared by sanding, shot blasting etc. and also be clean, rough, free from contamination, intact and level.
  • In pavements the substrate must have a compressive strength of at least 25 Mpa and pull off requirements of least 1.0 Mpa.
  • The residual humidity of the substrate must not exceed 4.0 %.
  • Respect any control joints that may exist on the substrate.

Vertical surfaces:

  • The substrate must be prepared by grinding or sanding.
  • It must be clean, rough, free from contamination, intact and level.
  • Any joints must be previously smoothed with IW BLOCKER or other suitable products.
  • In the presence of cracks or gaps, apply a sheet of fiberglass mesh.
