Application

  1. Driveways: It's a popular choice for residential driveways due to its durability, permeability, and attractive finish.
  2. Footpaths and Walkways: Ideal for pedestrian areas, resin bound gravel provides a smooth, accessible surface that's slip-resistant.
  3. Patios and Outdoor Living Areas: Its versatility in design and colour makes it suitable for enhancing the aesthetics of patios and outdoor seating areas.
  4. Cycle Paths: The smooth, flat surface is ideal for cycle paths, providing a safe and stable ride.
  5. Public Spaces and Urban Landscaping: Used in town centres, parks, and public gardens due to its decorative appearance and low maintenance requirements.
  6. Commercial Projects: Suitable for commercial properties including office parks, retail spaces, and hospitality venues for both aesthetic appeal and functionality.
  7. Car Parks and Access Roads: Its permeability makes it a good choice for car parks and access roads, reducing surface water runoff.
  8. Schools and Playgrounds: Safe and durable, resin bound gravel is used in educational settings and play areas, providing a slip-resistant surface.
  9. Pool Surrounds: Its non-slip properties and ability to customise colours make it ideal for pool surrounds.

FAQ's

Q. What is the difference between resin bound gravel and bonded gravel?

Bound gravel has a smooth texture and is porous, whereas bonded gravel has a rough texture and is not porous.

Q. Does resin bound gravel require maintenance?

A. Resin bound gravel should be swept regularly to avoid a build-up of debris, resulting in the surface becoming less porous.

Q. Can vehicles be driven on resin bound gravel?

A. The stone aggregate and resin are extremely hard-wearing, so vehicles can be driven on the surface. However, there may be a required depth that the surface must be laid to, depending on what the surface is going to be used for.

Q. What size aggregate is used for the resin bound surfacing?

A. A 1-3mm or 2-5mm aggregate is the most popular size used for a driveway, terrace or path, ensuring the internal build-up of the surfacing is a tight, well-bound mixture, with the right amount of cavitation for permeability. We recommend a minimum depth of 20mm for a driveway and a minimum depth of 16mm for a path or terrace.

For tree pits, we would recommend a 5-8mm or 10mm size aggregate to achieve optimum strength and porosity.

Q. Will there be any changes to the resin bound surfacing during extreme weather?

A. The resin bound surfacing has cavitation with the mixture, so water will run through the surface and back into the ground. This prevents the water from pooling on top of the surface, causing a freezing problem. Again, due to the cavitation with the mixture, the resin bound surface will remain cooler than asphalt or concrete during extreme heat due to air circulating through it.

Q. What temperature should resin bound gravel be laid in?

A. The air temperature should be a minimum of 5 degrees and the surface temperature should be a minimum of 3 degrees above dew point (the temperature at which condensations forms).
