Application

Suitable for use on profiled metal roofs, including marine/ coastal environments. Seamsil included within Delcote architectural coating system.

Description

A silicone-based remedial treatment formulated specifically to arrest the adverse effects of rust and chemical corrosion, industrial pollution and is particularly effective in marine/ coastal environments. The system completely encapsulates the damaged lap joint area preventing further water ingress and therefore provides maximum protection against future reverse side corrosion.

Installed by manufacturer network of approved contractors, all project works are inspected and certified to exacting quality standards – consult manufacturer for details.

Features and benefits:

  • Weather and ultraviolet (UV) resistant.
  • Proven corrosion resistance.
  • Encapsulates the damaged area to restrict further deterioration.
  • Water repellent seal.
  • Primer-less adhesion.
  • Remains tough and flexible, and is designed to withstand normal surface movement, ensuring continued optimum performance even in aggressive environments.
  • Dry film thickness (complete system): Minimum 350 microns.
  • Long life protection in elasticity and encapsulation.
  • Silicone systems do not degrade by chalking and do not have self-cleaning properties.
  • Seamsil sealant is particularly effective when used as a primary or secondary seal in lap joints on siphonic Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) Plastisol or Pvf2 coated profile cladding sheets, to prevent the ingress of acid rainwater and pollution.

System components and installation application:

  • Seamsil sealant (at overlaps): Gun-applied into the gap between the upper and lower roof sheets, as close to the edge of the upper sheet as possible, forming a complete bridged seal.
  • Seamsil base and top coats: Whilst the Seamsil sealant is still wet, apply the Seamsil base coat to form a fillet and visually obscure the leading edge of the top sheet. At edges: The area to be treated should be at least 25 mm from the edge of the roof sheet or either side of the overlap and a further 10 mm beyond the prepared area of corrosion, ensuring complete coverage of all exposed steel work. At overlaps: Apply by brush at a minimum wet film thickness of 220 microns. Work in a smooth upward motion ensuring complete coverage of all exposed and prepared metal areas. Allow to cure.

Seamsil base and top coats:

  • Chemical base: Silicone coating in a spirit carrier.
  • Specific gravity: 1.22.
  • Shore A Hardness: 20 (approximately).
  • Dry film thickness: Complete system – 350 microns (minimum).
  • Time to full cure: 10–14 days.
  • Solids content: By volume – 80%.
  • Movement accommodation: ±50%.
  • Elongation at break: 750%.
  • Tensile strength: 1.6 N/mm².
  • Application temperature: 3–60°C.
  • Dew point: Surface to be 2°C above the dew point.
