Lower protection layer

Guidance for specification option:

Spectratex geotextiles are a range of non-woven polyester geotextile isolation and protection layers.

Used to protect the Spectraplan or Armourplan waterproofing membrane on ballasted or green roof build ups and can be used as a separation layer between PVC membranes and incompatible substrates such as existing bituminous membrane roofs or polystyrene thermal insulation boards.


The Spectratex geotextiles are available in three grades – 300 gsm, 500 gsm, and 800 gsm. Heavier grades should be utilized in more onerous situations such as when overlaying an existing bituminous roof where it’s impractical to remove all of the chippings.

The Spectratex geotextiles are installed loose laid with a 150mm side and end overlap.

Spectravap (blue) is a 0.3 mm thick polyethylene vapour control layer (VCL), suitable for use on most IKO Polymeric mechanically fastened systems.

Guidance for specification option:

Butyl tape, green, 19 x 1.5 mm x 30 m.

  • An extruded butyl tape designed for use with Spectravap PE vapour control layer.
  • Used in between the overlapped sheets of Spectravap.
  • Used for sealing the Spectravap to the building substrate where the VCL terminates to provide an effective air/vapour barrier.
  • A high tack tape that remains flexible, ensuring the highest levels of performance.

IKO enertherm ALU is a 100 % CFC, HCFC or HFC-free insulation board with a rigid polyisocyanurate foam core, clad on both sides with a multi-layer gastight aluminium complex. This high-quality reflecting ALU cladding consists of no fewer than seven layers, combined into a single complex. It is tested under extreme conditions in respect of water absorption, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and emissivity. Consult literature for further details and insert requirements.

Manufacturer guidance

1.2 mm polyester scrim reinforced membrane for mechanically fastened roofing systems.

Offers enhanced mechanical properties over standard PVC membranes thanks to having high polymer content throughout and high performance reinforcement.

Used on both flat and sloping roofs and is suitable for both new build and refurbishment installations

Mechanically fastened in the overlap using IKOfix Stress Plates and IKOfix Screws into the deck.

The IKO Strike clip is a combination of a high quality rigid plastic clip attached to a 100 x 100 mm section of polyester reinforced membrane. Light grey in colour.

The IKO Strike clip is designed to take uncoated lightning conductor tapes with a section of 25 mm wide x 3 mm thick.

IKO adjustable paving support pads.

Guidance for specification option:

IKO Adjustable Paving Support Pads are designed to be used where fine adjustment in height is required in order to obtain a level paved area on a roof deck. This is normally the case where the roof has been laid to falls for drainage, or where the deck is uneven. Consult literature for details and insert requirements.

IKO Paving Support Pads incorporate spacing nibs to maintain a consistent drainage gap between pavings. They are easily divided into halves and quarters, for use at edges and corners of paved areas. Guidance for specification option:

IKO Trendy roof outlet, Vertical, is made of thermally insulated polyurethane. Yellow in colour.

Available in a range of diameters (70–125 mm, consult literature and insert requirements) to enable direct connection to pipes with push in spigot according to EN 1451-1 and EN 1124-2, for conventional gravity drainage

The IKO Trendy outlets and extension units are available with pre- fitted flanges of the appropriate waterproofing material - Armourplan, Spectraplan or Bituminous VCL to enable an effective waterproof detail.

When used with an IKO Trendy Extension Unit the outlet can provide a reliable airtight seal in conjunction with the VCL and thermal insulation up to 320 mm thick.

PVC refurb rainwater outlet

Guidance for specification option:

Pre-formed vertical drop outlets manufactured from injection moulded flexible PVC. Light grey in colour. Available in a wide range of diameters (45–128 mnm internal diameter, consult literature and insert requirements).

Can be pushed into the existing rainwater outlet or downpipe in refurbishment applications where the fins can provide a watertight seal to the inside of the existing outlet.

Provide a secure hot air welded solution to roof top drainage when used in conjunction with Armourplan membranes.
