OVERVIEW
Mildenhall College Academy, a prominent educational institution situated in Bury Saint Edmunds, engaged NBB Outdoors after identifying the need for a bespoke shelter to accommodate various outdoor activities and events for its students. The primary objectives of the project were as follows:
Enhanced Versatility: The academy recognised the requirement for a versatile sheltered outdoor space to offer its students with a protected environment for a wide range of activities to include; outdoor classes, assemblies, recreational gatherings, and events.
Compliance and Assessments: Paramount importance was placed on conducting thorough site surveys and comprehensive risk assessments to align precisely with Mildenhall Academy’s exacting parameters. It was imperative to demonstrate commitment to meeting high standards of safety, compliance, and efficiency throughout the project’s execution.
Durability and Longevity: Recognising the significant investment in this outdoor shelter, the academy sought structures that would not only withstand the test of time but also endure the most challenging environmental conditions with resilience and longevity.
To meet Midlenhall Academy’s exacting requirements, NBB Outdoors designed and delivered a bespoke Freestanding L-Shaped Tiered Winterbourne Shelter, including the following key features:
Precise Dimensions: The shelter’s dimensions were meticulously tailored to fit the unique location; with a formation agreed to provide one continuous “L-Shaped” canopy measuring 57.115m. The bespoke design guaranteed optimal sheltered space was provided to meet the diverse needs of the academy.
Rainwater Management: To effectively manage rainwater, a 500mm canopy overhang was incorporated at the highest point of the shelter. This addition was designed to facilitate efficient water runoff and prevent water ingress, thereby safeguarding the newly created sheltered areas keeping them dry, even during poor weather conditions.
Stability and Security: The newly positioned shelter benefited from a strategically planned installation, with all freestanding posts securely sub-surfaced into the ground. Strengthening the structure’s stability and providing an additional layer of security, thereby guaranteeing peace of mind for users even in adverse weather conditions or high-traffic environments.
Aesthetic Consistency: Finished in a sleek matte silver RAL9006 coating, the modern colour coordination seamlessly integrated the new shelter into the existing surroundings, creating a uniformed and visually pleasing result.
On completion of the project, Paisley, Regional Estates Manager for Academy Transformation Trust contacted NBB to let us know just how impressed The Academy were with the completed project, saying:
“I have to commend the coordinated efforts and compatibility of the installation team. Mark was absolutely brilliant and his interactions and communications with myself and the academy was nothing short of excellent. Thank you to you and your team for a great installation.”
