OVERVIEW
The A5036 is one of the major trunk roads that lead into the Liverpool dockland area. Due to this road becoming increasingly busy, Highways England instructed works to upgrade the existing central reserve fencing.
The scheme was undertaken by Metor Services Ltd, working for Colas Ltd under the Highways England Area 10 CWF contract, which involved the replacement of 1,932 linear metres of existing pedestrian guardrail.
Alpha Rail was appointed by Metor Services Ltd to manufacture and supply 985No M2 Pedestrian Guardrail panels, which included special length panels to suit project requirements. This was the preferred product for Highways England as it is compliant with the British Standard BS7818, satisfying class 1 and 2. All materials were galvanised as standard to ensure a long lifespan and protection against corrosion. The purpose of the newly installed guardrail is to prevent pedestrians from crossing the busy highway that sees high volumes of traffic on a daily basis.
