Vibration Isolation: Theory of Foundations for Buildings, Equipment, and Machines. Vibrating, rotating, reciprocating, and impacting are all movements that can induce vibrations and/or shocks which is then transmitted. If there is equipment causing unwanted movement, this can be isolated to separate the machine for contact points that allow transmission. Alternatively, the area around the machine can be isolated, which is useful if you need to isolate high precision equipment. Depending on the circumstances, a machine can be both a source and recipient of unwanted vibration. This document covers the basics of vibration theory - why it is important, and why do we need to isolate it?
