Sustainability overview
AG Paving + Building Products has been a family run business for over 65 years. Sustainability isn’t just one of our values, it’s the core of our purpose and culture.
At the core of AG’s operations is a clear and ambitious purpose: to build better, more sustainable environments for everyone. As pioneers in low-carbon product development, we focus on reducing embodied carbon, enhancing circularity, and driving long-term performance across the built environment. Our work supports the decarbonisation of construction and helps shape a more climate-resilient future.
Our Vision: To be the market-leading supplier of sustainable, low-carbon paving and building products in the UK and Ireland.
Our Purpose: To create the most sustainable paving and building products available today.
Our Values: Sustainability, Integrity, Wellbeing, Innovation, Customer Care.
AG has achieved a 47.8% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2019, exceeding its Climate Action Pledge target of a 30% reduction by 2030. Scope 3 emissions have also decreased by 4.67% since 2021. These reductions have been driven by the company’s switch to 100% renewable electricity and the adoption of BioLPG, delivering a CO₂ saving of 300 tonnes. A £2 million investment in a new wash plant has also contributed to AG’s carbon reduction efforts, providing efficiency savings while improving product consistency and enabling the recycling of waste materials, including discontinued product lines, into new production.
In addition, AG has introduced new product moulds, upgraded packaging machinery and new wrapping processes to improve performance efficiency and mitigate the company’s carbon impact across their four sites. Our state-of-the-art Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) Centre at our Fivemiletown headquarters features the most advanced testing equipment available. This facility enables us to perform a full range of tests to meet all technical standards, including the development and testing of prototype products before production.
AG is committed to transparency and has published third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for over 370 products, giving customers clear, credible insight into their environmental impact. This data-driven approach is further strengthened through AG’s partnership with SustainIQ, which enables the business to monitor and report on key sustainability metrics such as responsible procurement, environmental management, and community engagement.
Protecting and enhancing biodiversity across AG manufacturing sites is a key focus, helping to conserve habitats and support species such as bees, falcons, crayfish, sand martins, and hares. The company’s participation in the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, along with collaborative efforts like the Ballinderry River Project, reflects a strong commitment to improving local watercourses and safeguarding vulnerable species, including the white-clawed crayfish.
AG is accredited to BES 6001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 9001 and is among the first to achieve recertification to the latest version of the BES 6001 Excellent rating at Toome manufacturing site for its flag products. Having these accreditations is a clear sign to our customers that they are working with a company which puts sustainability and traceability at the heart of its operations. Furthermore, AG have been recognised by winning multiple awards, including Green Exporter of the Year at the 2024 All-Ireland Sustainability Awards, and Sustainable Manufacturing Business of the Year at the 2024 Business Eye Awards.
We are committed to using less water in our manufacturing processes utilising recycled water. In 2024, AG used 60 litres of water per tonne of product (138m3). AG partnered in a successful Innovation programme with Queens University to reduce Carbon Emissions in our manufacturing, leading to a KTP Future Leader Award.
At our Fivemiletown facility, we utilise aggregates from our adjacent quarry. This strategic proximity not only streamlines our production process but also significantly reduces the embodied carbon of our products by cutting out transportation emissions.
To address the environmental impact of quarrying, we have implemented a carefully crafted restoration strategy aimed at sustainable rehabilitation. Central to this plan is the use of waste silt, a byproduct of our manufacturing processes, transformed into eco-friendly clay for backfilling the quarry. This process not only repurposes waste but also effectively manages the site’s topography, which is part of our low carbon legacy.
Through a comprehensive sustainability strategy that integrates carbon reduction, circular manufacturing, biodiversity protection, transparent reporting, and certified responsible sourcing, AG continues to lead the way in sustainable construction practices.
