In 2004 Apple opened their first European store in one of the most famous shopping streets in the world, Regent Street in London.The interior space is a 7.2-metre double-height grand hall and the interior front facade, with its full height arches clad in Portland stone, can be appreciated in its full extent.Albion Stone supplied Jordans Basebed for the internal wall linings which was sympathetic to the historic nature of the building.

As part of a £5.5 billion strategy to become a landmark London station, the new Blackfriars scheme includes the construction of a new station on the South Bank with an aim to increase the service capacity, frequency of trains and provide better interchange service between National Rail and London Underground services.Originally opened in 1886, Blackfriars was designed by Pascall and Watson, with the façade and concourse being modernised in the 1970s. Jacobs were commissioned to design the new station building and Tony Gee and Partners to design the rail bridge.Albion Stone supplied approximately 918m² of Bowers Whitbed, mostly in the form of 75mm thick ashlar panels.

Situated in the heart of London’s West End, New Bond Street is home to many of the world’s iconic fashion houses.Prestigious French brand Chanel originally moved to New Bond Street back in 2010, holding only 10,000 square feet of retail space.Doubling their retail space, Chanel commissioned Macdonald Architects to design their new Flagship boutique at 158-159 New Bond Street.Miller Druck, approached Albion Stone looking for a ‘flawless’ material for the externals of the Chanel Store.Albion Stone offered their Jordans Basebed stone due to its historical context around Mayfair.

This £48M project provided a new copper and Portland Stone cladding canopy fronting Piccadilly provides shelter for the lift entrance and a new staircase that runs from Piccadilly.The planning approval process involved collaboration with artist John Maine RA whose work is featured in relief on the Portland Stone cladding and granite paving to the Piccadilly area of the project. The work focuses on the geology of the Portland Stone cladding and setting of the station in the natural environment of Green Park.Art on the Underground commissioned artist John Maine RA to create a new artwork which forms part of the station structure for passengers to enjoy.Albion Stone provided stones from the full range of Portland Stone beds available creating a stunning contrast between the stones

Albion Stone were able to supply the desired quality of finished product within the contract programme. The New Independent Whitbed specified for the main flooring provided the aesthetic qualities and character required for large areas of floor in a luxury development of this kind.New Independent Whitbed was selected for 1860m² of flooring, 454 linear metres of stair treads and 1,300 linear metres of skirtings. Two fireplaces were also produced using New Independent Whitbed as well as the bath surrounds and bath steps. Independent Grove Whitbed was selected for internal wall tiling and Bowers Roach for feature panels on the external facades.

Block was pre-purchased by Stanhope for the project. Finished stone was manufactured at Albion’s Factory over a 50 week period. The Grove Whitbed was also used on the internals through the foyer and up onto the lift lobbies.The Building Research Establishment “BRE” provided the testing, which was completed in advance of the production programme as a direct result of the block pre-purchase.

Natural Stone Award 2020 WinnerThis project, being the winner at the Stone Federations Natural Stone Show 2020 consists of two carved pillars and two carved roundels.The pillars are formed with a Kilkenny limestone plinth and a decorative Portland Stone top. The two limestones were chosen to match the contrast of the main property.The Portland Stone roundels feature a distinctive green man with words from Gawain and the green knight and Yggdrasil, the Viking tree of life with Norse words.

This magnificent property, nestled in the picturesque Dorset countryside amid vast farmland, demanded a natural local material that was both easy to lay and low in embodied carbon. After catching sight of the launch of Albion Stone's Heritage Portland Stone® Bricks on social media at the 2023 Clerkenwell Design Show, LTS Architects and the client were convinced it was the perfect fit for the project.The brickwork commenced shortly after Christmas 2023, and despite some rain delays, the first floor and an external wall were erected swiftly. The builders are highly satisfied with the brick's quality and ease of installation. The client is thrilled with the diverse aesthetic these bricks impart to their stunning property.Albion Stone have supplied a total of 20,000 bricks for this project and the landscaping which includes Heritage Portland Stone Paving is to be completed early 2025.

The design specification was for the Sympathetic restoration of a Farm Labourers Cottage using natural materials.The interior brief was for an even textured creamy Portland Stone which was safe in use, durable and had good resistance to staining, so Bowers Basebed was selected for the flooring and stairs leading out of the kitchen.The exterior brief stated that the stone for external paving needed to be safe in use and have good slip resistance results in both dry and wet conditions.It was also important that the stone was aesthetically pleasing with interesting details. Therefore Grove Whitbed was selected.The surrounding wall was topped with Bowers Whitbed due its smooth texture and ease of shaping the edges.

St Paul's Cathedral is Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece, built in glowing Portland Stone, crowned by the magnificent dome, a famous landmark on the skyline of the City of London.This programme saw St Paul’s repaired and cleaned inside and out, with greatly improved provision for those with disabilities and an enhanced visitor experience through the provision of new exhibition and interpretation galleries.Here at Albion Stone we regularly supply Portland stone to the Masons at St Paul’s Cathedral for maintenance and repairs. We supplied Portland Jordans Basebed and Whitbed for the South Churchyard Improvements. The stone has been used to create seating areas that reinforce the other side of the medieval cloister walk.

One Wood Wharf designed by Herzog & de Meuron and standing 205m tall, this building was designed to be the landmark structure within the expansion of Canary Wharf. The bottom 2 floors of this 58 storey tower are clad with Jordans Whitbed Portland stone. Albion Stone at our modern Portland factory fabricated almost 1000 bespoke curved radial pieces to form the façade to the main entrances. Each of these pieces of stone which are curved both internally and externally to tight tolerances align exactly with the soffits which hang in excess of 1 metre from the structure. These four quadrants to the building form the main entrance and showcase the beauty of natural local Portland stone, its heritage and the beauty of the material integrated into a modern design.
