Bishop David Brown School, Woking

Bishop David Brown School, Woking

Boyco (UK) Ltd

Collaborating with PCP Contractors, Team BOYCO transformed the food technology room at Bishop David Brown School to create a space perfect for students to learn food and nutrition.Project ScopeLocated in Woking, Northwest Surry, Bishop David Brown School’s ethos is focused on ‘Enabling all to Excel’. To foster this environment, recent refurbishments have taken place. As part of this we worked to renew their food technology room; crafting kitchen workstations that seamlessly blend with the current school aesthetic whilst being fully functional for usage. The BOYCO WayBackgroundCatering to students who are learning to cook and working towards food and nutrition qualifications, BOYCO supplied and installed fully fitted kitchen areas, complete with appliances, cupboards, sinks, and workstations. MovementWorking closely with the customer to ensure their needs were met, our in-house design team designed the worktops of the workstations to be rounded at the ends.Eliminating any sharp corners, the rounded edges reduce obstructions allowing students to navigate more effectively, an essential requirement in a high-traffic classroom environment. Due to this classroom hosting an interactive, practical approach to learning, hot items are commonly carried within lessons. The rounded edges reduce the risk of students bumping into the surface. Accidental contact can occur, and therefore removing pointed edges of a square or rectangular shaped work surface contributes to a safe space. The softer edge of the worktop s is also a more comfortable option than the usual square. Students and teachers can both lean and touch the worktops whilst participating in practical food technology sessions, which enhances collaborations and creates a welcoming and engaging environment for all. ColourFinal selections of colours for the classroom took place to ensure that Team BOYCO both matched the preferences of Bishop David Brown School and that the chosen tones and pigments complement the overall design. It was decided to use a neutral colour palette for the food technology classroom.A fantastic choice, neutral colours give a contemporary aesthetic to the workspaces, whilst creating a calm atmosphere for students. Neutral colours are also a popular option due to their versatility; they complement the majority of accent colours enabling the food technology walls to be updated with different paint when desired.Want to learn more about Colour Theory in education spaces? Read BOYCO’s insights here. Seating OptionsDiffering what is commonly seen in a classroom, stools were selected as a seating option. A practical solution, they provide flexible seating due to matching the height of the worktops, along with ease of movement and storage where needed in learning. If they need to be moved from pathways when students are cooking this can easily be actioned; they can easily be stowed away, allowing students and teachers to use as much of the classroom space as possible. Bespoke ProductsTried and trusted for over 60 years, we are dedicated to providing long-lasting solutions for our customers, and this was no different for Bishop David Brown School. Specific focus was on creating a lasting and efficient learning space, whilst still offering an eye-catching appearance. DurabilitySolid Grade Laminate worktops were chosen for the kitchen area. Durable and highly resistant to wear and tear, they were a perfect match to the customers’ requirements. Even under heavy daily use by teachers and students, the worktops will remain in great condition. This longevity allows focus on learning rather than teachers and students having to think about preventing damage the workspace. SGL is also a non-porous material, which in the food technology classroom contributes to the school’s excellent hygiene standards as spills can easily be cleaned and worktops maintained. For schools, Solid Grade Laminate is also a great choice due to its cost-effectiveness. A robust option with low maintenance upkeep, they are a great long-term option for learning spaces that require specialist surfaces. Even with exposure to the use of knives and other kitchen tools; scratches, cuts, and heat damage do not appear as easily, creating a fantastic lasting appearance in the food technology rooms. AppliancesAlong with BOYCO’s built to last fixed furniture products, the following appliances were installed:For storage of perishable food, refrigerators were included, providing students with quick access to ingredients when participating in practical learning. Ovens and hobs for each workstation were also installed. An essential for effective cooking, they allow Bishop David’s students to explore various recipes and techniques to encourage food health knowledge and safety. Ensuring that as much space as possible was used, the appliances are integrated, rather than stand-alone. To contribute to the cleanliness of the food technology room, dishwashers were selected due to their ability to quickly wash cooking equipment and utensils, getting the classroom ready for the next lesson. Storage in the ClassroomPerfect for aprons, chef whites, and storing students coats and bags, our market leading 'Hot Dip' nylon-coated peg rails were also installed. ‘Unbreakable’, the specialist coating creates unparalleled abrasion resistance – 500x that of powdered coating alternatives. Even with daily student usage, our pegs stay functional, due to the resistance against chips, scratches, and wear over time. Promoting independence and tidiness, food technology students can organise their belongings, which if left in the workstation aisles pose a tripping hazard along with a health and safety risk.Along with abrasion resistance, our ‘Hot Dip’ nylon also offers anti-microbial resistance, offering protection against 99% of all known bacteria. This is beneficial for the classroom, as due to it being a food preparation yet high touch point space, it is another step of contribution to the health and safety standards required in the school. Project SuccessOn completion of the project, both BOYCO and PCP contractors came together to view the final finished food technology room. A great result, the food technology classroom is now fully fitted with bespoke high-quality furniture and appliances, enhancing the learning experience of Bishop David’s students by optimising the functionality of the space. Perfect for practical learning, students are now able to explore different aspects of home economics and food nutrition, inspiring the next generation of careers such as chefs. teachers now also have a fantastic space to teach pupils, knowing that the selected ‘Built to Last’ furniture solutions will stand the test of time even in the busy environment of the food technology classroom, something of which Team BOYCO are proud to have contributed to.When we chatted to the customer post project, they expressed how pleased they were with the final result, with PCP contractors saying…"Overall the project has been a complete success and the Client is over the moon with the workmanship and product. Boyco (UK) Ltd

"Boyco did an exceptional job of meeting our unique requirements on this project, and it didn’t stop at the initial installation! Boyco’s installers were regularly on hand to find innovative solutions to unexpected problems arising in the challenging environment – in particular children trying to climb on top of the Teaching Walls. I am very impressed with Boyco’s products and service and would recommend them to anybody looking for a bespoke solution for challenging environments." - Diane Hallworth, Bridglea PRUCHALLENGES & SOLUTIONSOn arrival for the installation, Boyco installers found that steel dado trunking had been installed along the Classroom walls, and the electric sockets were mislocated which caused them to clash with the electric source needed for the Teaching Walls. Our installers carried out all necessary remedial work to align the Teaching wall electrical access points to the wrongly positioned sockets on the dado trunking. After successful installation of the Teaching Walls, we were informed by Bridglea PRU that children had been climbing up the side of the Teaching Walls by suspending themselves between the Teaching Wall and the classroom wall–in an attempt to get on top of the Teaching Walls and climb inside the cabinets. Boyco supplied & installed bespoke infill boxes to the corner of the necessary Teaching Walls, to prevent pupils being able to gain any access to the roof of the Teaching Walls.

Boyco (UK) Ltd

Team BOYCO collaborated with Heron Brothers and DB3 Group Architects to transform storage for Helensburgh Leisure Centre.Project ScopeLocated on the Victorian costal town of the River Clyde in West Scotland, Helensburgh Leisure Centre prides itself on being kitted out with world-leading Technogym facilities. Their fitness centre houses a variety of over 50 items of gym equipment, and the requirement arose for a storage solution to house all the additional equipment as well as other supplies required for the day-to-day operations. The BOYCO WayBackgroundCatering to both Helensburgh Leisure Centre staff and gym users, 4-tier wall shelving was installed in the fitness centre. These shelves house various equipment and supplies from yoga mats to 15kg weight bags which are to be used daily by staff and members of the public, therefore it was critical in the design that the structure was load bearing. For optimum strength, the Shelving was both wall and floor fixed in all store areas. This secure fitting ensures that when gym equipment, cleaning supplies, or swimming accessories are being taken and put back, it does not lean forward or topple with the distribution of weight, contributing to the safety of the leisure centre employees and users. After being approached by Heron Brothers regarding the project, BOYCO travelled to Glasgow to meet with the customer. As a brand trusted to deliver, our support in project management ensured smooth and efficient product delivery and installation.Bespoke ProductsDue to the shelving being in numerous places in Helensburgh Leisure Centre, from the main pool store to cleaner’s store, emphasis was placed on creating a bespoke storage solution that follows BOYCO’s ‘Built to Last’ quality. There was also a requirement for the shelving to contribute positively to the safety as well as aesthetics of the various different areas, whether housing cleaning products or swimming accessories. As per the BOYCO standard, the timber slats used in the fixed shelving is twice coated with our anti-microbial lacquer. This is formulated to stop bacteria from surviving on its surface, preventing the spread of 99% of all known bacteria. The shelving is a high touch point area for Helensburgh Leisure Centre, being regularly used by staff for collecting, returning, and moving equipment for various fitness sessions. Therefore, the anti-microbial lacquer positively contributes to the overall hygiene of the area. The fixed shelving metal frame is coated with our ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon. Also offering anti-microbial properties, it provides 500x more abrasion resistance than powdered-coated paint alternatives. Guaranteeing in even high traffic environments, this was perfect for the leisure centre due to the shelving housing frequently used items such as heavy weights, ensuring that the fixed furniture follows our ‘Build to Last’ ethos and continues to be a fantastic looking product.Project SuccessFollowing the completion of the project, Helensburgh Leisure Centre now houses fantastic storage shelving units for their cleaner’s store, studios, general store, and pool store.Team BOYCO are delighted to have supplied and delivered a long-lasting solution to the leisure centre and provided improved accessibility to equipment and supplies for staff. Hillside School

Hillside School

Boyco (UK) Ltd

We were commissioned to supply and install cloakroom fittings and a bespoke ‘classpack’ package for a four-classroom extension at Hillside School in the north-east of Scotland... all to seriously tight deadlines.Portlethen is one of Aberdeen’s fastest-growing commuter towns and, within two years of completion, the local primary school needed space for more pupils... quickly. What’s more, the four-classroom extension had to be completed while the existing school and nursery operated as normal.Boyco were approached to simply provide fixed furniture and equipment but, instead, proposed a fully managed, supply and installation service that would ease the pressure on main contractor Bancon Construction. Our end-to-end package included the design, manufacture and installation of a bespoke system of cloakroom fittings, teacher walls, kitchen units and height-adjustable worktops.Challenging lead times were made more difficult by the coronavirus pandemic and new construction site rules. However, we put together a plan of works for accelerated manufacture and installed the systems in just two weeks at the end of 2020. The extension was handed over to the client in January 2021.“It was satisfying that even in the midst of a global pandemic, the Council and its partners could work together to ensure the completion of the project,” said Cllr Gillian Owen, chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Committee.Throughout, we liaised directly with the architect and the end client, combining our skills and experience to provide a fully-managed service designed to take the pressure off the main contractor. “Hassle-free” was how they described it. The project contributed to a portfolio of successful supply-and-fit projects in Scotland. “I will be recommending that Bancon Construction use Boyco on future projects,” said site manager Colin Smith. The service from Boyco couldn’t be faulted - from the drawings and delivery schedule to the quality of fittings, and an installation team who worked diligently without fuss to get the work completed on time.Colin Smith, Site Manager, Bancon Construction

Kendal College, Cumbria

Boyco (UK) Ltd

Collaborating with John Turner Construction, Team BOYCO was approached to transform Kendal College’s newly built T-Level Construction Block with our fixed furniture solutions, with the customer requesting Worktops, Cupboards, and Shelving.Project ScopeLocated on the outskirts of the Lake District, Kendal College focuses on its ethos of 'Creating Bright Futures'. Offering a variety of courses, from A-Level to Degree, to a range of ages they sought to enhance their classroom space and create a practical yet comfortable learning environment. The BOYCO Way BackgroundA requirement from the client was for the product to be manufactured and installed as whole package something which BOYCO, with our own British Factory and expert installation team, was readily available to provide.Due to tools being frequently used as part of the learning experience and construction curriculum; it was important for the worktops in the T-Level block to be robust and able to withstand repeat impact.Due to this, our in-house team of designers opted to use Econo-Top worktops. Suitable for workstations, the material boasts optimal scratch and wear resistance; perfect for the construction-focused classroom, and therefore a great choice for the customer.Merinolam FR+ Laminate Sheet, in the style of ‘Castle Concrete’, was used on the exterior of the worktop after our sales team provided samples of different options to the contractor, to support with final design decisions. Not only did this add to the durability due to its phenolic resin coating which creates flame retardant properties, but it was cost-effective and provided a clean aesthetic finish to the classroom worktops. Quality Bespoke Products5 Tier adjustable shelving was installed within the Construction Block Storerooms. As per the BOYCO standard, all our metal work has been processed with our ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon coating. 500x abrasion-resistant than the next powdered coating alternative, it is easily able to withstand daily usage by the students for many years to come. This is particularly vital in a construction learning environment, where heavy and sharp tools are frequently used, therefore reflecting BOYCO’s ‘Built to Last’ exceptional quality. Our ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon also contains Anti-Microbial properties. Formulated to stop bacteria from surviving on its surface, it prevents the spread of 99% of all known bacteria. Beneficial to Kendal College, it contributes to the health and well-being of all in the classroom and complies with school safety standards. In addition to the adjustable shelving, fixed Wall Cupboards were installed in the Workshops. This storage solution ensures that students have easy access to the materials and items that they need to keep close to hand whilst working on the worktops below. The multiple storage areas help to keep the Workshop environments tidy due to equipment being organised behind the cupboard doors.Whilst completing the works on site at the College, we were notified that underfloor heating was present in the areas that BOYCO were due to fit out. We were quick to work closely with John Turner Construction to provide a solution to ensure that this wouldn’t impact the design and install. This was not a problem for us, as with over 60 years of heritage in the manufacturing business, we overcame this obstacle by utilising suitable shallow screws and fixings to avoid puncturing the structure underneath. Project SuccessThroughout the project, from design to install, Team BOYCO visited the site to ensure exceptional standards were delivered at each and every project touchpoint.Joining forces with John Turner Construction, we worked meticulously to ensure Kendal College’s requests were met. This resulted in the construction block being finished to an impeccable standard.Creating a fantastic end result, BOYCO is super proud to have worked on this project and to have positively contributed to the learning environment of future construction industry workers.

The Graham Kerr Building, University of Glasgow

Boyco (UK) Ltd

Teaming up with Clark Contracts and ECD Architects, Team BOYCO transformed the Graham Kerr Building at the University of Glasgow with our ‘Built to Last’ fixed furniture solutions.Project ScopeOriginally called ‘The Zoology Building’, the Graham Kerr Building is named after Sir John Graham Kerr who was previously a professor of Zoology at the University and evolutionary embryologist. For over 100 years the building has remained a space where student scientists can learn biodiversity, veterinary medicine, and other life sciences. To ensure the University provides the best education possible, there became a need to refurbish the facilities. The BOYCO WayBackgroundIn this project, BOYCO collaborated with Clark Contracts Limited. Tried and trusted by contractors across the UK, as well as having experience in Scottish education projects, we provided end-to-end project management from drawings, to installation and everything in between. We also supported ECD Architects in design and product offerings, ensuring that we fulfilled the University of Glasgow’s requests.Due to the building being situated on a busy campus, it was important to prioritise staff and student safety when transporting the fixed furniture to the site. The large vehicles used to deliver were escorted whilst travelling through the site, with strict requirements to complete before 8am, prior to peak lecture and classroom time. Our project management worked closely with all involved to ensure the safe, smooth running of all deliveries to the university.Bespoke ProductsA category A building, described as 'an outstanding example of a largely unaltered work by the notable Glasgow architect, Sir John James Burnet', there are strict regulations on what modifications could be performed on the building. Specialist focus had to be on utilising the current area as much as possible, with little to no invasive changes to the building's structure. Due to this, we worked closely with the architect and contractor to tailor our bespoke options to perfectly fit the space available.Base cupboard units, Wall Cupboard Units, and Open Shelf wall units were installed in the space, comprised of Melamine Faced Chipboard (MFC). This material is scratch and stain-resistant, and available in a wide variety of colours perfect for design flexibility. The colours selected for both base and wall cupboards was white with a grey trim. A clinical and contemporary look, this combination brings a modern aesthetic to the historic building and matches the laboratory environment. The MFC is also strong and durable, with the chipboard at the core providing structural strength and the melamine coating giving additional protection. The coating allows it to be cleaned with ease, supporting the maintenance of the furnitureInside the cupboards, bespoke pull-out trays were included. This is an excellent addition and will be used to store heavy-weight microscopes along with other science equipment which enables it to be close to hand to support in practical activities. To support the teaching of life sciences, where a variety of chemicals and special equipment are frequently used in learning, the surfaces of the laboratory needed to be robust enough to withstand daily usage by students. Our in-house design team selected Trespa™ Solid Grade Laminate, also known as SGL, for the Laboratory worktops. Not only is SGL chemical resistant, it offers superior impact, scratch and abrasion resistance perfect for the zoology-focused environment where practical work requires instruments such as sharp utensils and heavy microscopes. SGL is also easy to clean and inhibits bacteria growth, supporting the University of Glasgow’s health and safety requirements and student safety.Alongside the SGL worktops, Corian® Glacier White Sinks with a seamless setting were installed. These solid surface sinks are similar to the work surfaces chosen, where they are both durable and stain-resistant. Due to the material being non-porous, it can be easily maintained with simple cleaning agents perfect for maintaining a safe and clean environment in the laboratory. To complement this, Single Goose-Neck Lab Taps were installed. A popular choice in scientific workspaces, the high arc in the design allows extra space between the bottom of the sink and the opening of the tap, providing flexibility when filling large containers. The spout of the sink also enhances control of the water flow, as the curve supports precise pouring, useful for filling up beakers with smaller openings. In the middle of the workstations, BOYCO supplied 1000m Long Triangle Trunking with Double Sockets. Giving students convenient and reachable access to a power source when needed for equipment such as laptops, and enhances productivity due to it being readily available preventing downtime looking for a plug during lessons. These sockets support the health and safety practices needed in the laboratory, minimising the risk of trip hazards due to securely housing electrical wires up and away from the floor. Project SuccessFollowing the completion of the project, BOYCO and Clark Contracts both visited The Graham Kerr Building. It was fantastic to view the results of the collaboration, along with viewing the museum situated inside of the building.Team BOYCO is proud to have not only work alongside both Clark Contractors and ECD Architects, but provide the students of The University of Glasgow a newly refurbished workspace and bring new life to the long-establish Zoological Department continuing Sir John Graham Kerr's legacy in the Scottish city. Currently, working on an Education project? Thomas Bewick School, West Denton

Thomas Bewick School, West Denton

Boyco (UK) Ltd

Teaming up with Robertson Construction, BOYCO helped transform a sensory room, resource areas, and table spaces for Thomas Bewick School.Project ScopeSituated in the Northeast town of West Denton, Newcastle upon Tyne; Thomas Bewick is a specialist school for autistic children and young people. Catering for just under 300 students aged 3 to 19 years old, with primary to post-secondary teachings, the school supports a range of learning and individual needs. The BOYCO WayBackgroundTo ensure optimal specialist learning and development for their students, the need arose to refurbish the school’s sensory room and resource areas in classrooms.Having worked with Robertson Construction on many jobs previously, they knew they could rely on BOYCO to cater to the specific needs of Thomas Bewick School.Firstly, the school required a resource area which could house a small fridge, sink and worktop space. It had to be simple, easy to clean for health and safety purposes, and be sturdy enough for daily usage. BOYCO’s in-house design team worked with Robertson Construction and the customer to craft a kitchenette that suited their requirements. 16mm ‘Trespa’ The Solid Grade Laminate also provides durability to the worktop; and prevents wear and tear which keeps it looking like new for many years to come. Upstands were also included at the back of the worktops; not only to provide an aesthetically pleasing look but to offer extra wall protection against water splashes from the sink. The same Solid Grade Laminate was used as a tabletop on desks for a computer area. This again adds a layer of additional protection to the fixed furniture and increases its durability despite daily usage. It was finished with a black trim, creating a sleek finish.A refresh of their current sensory room was also requested, leading to bespoke wall and floor padding being chosen. This is to support the children in discovering, exploring, and experiencing their senses in a safe environment, which is of the utmost importance for Thomas Bewick School.Due to the school being a specialist for children and young people with a range of abilities associated with Autistic Spectrum Condition, the padding is a soft lilac colour. This is both calming and tranquil for the pupils due to preventing overstimulation, whilst still promoting creativity and contributing towards safe play in the sensory room.Bespoke ProductsConsiderations were made for the use of Autism-friendly colours for the resource area. BOYCO’s designers opted to use a bespoke soft green tone on the cupboard doors. Keeping the colours muted aids in creating a calming effect which also makes the area secure. This allows the students to focus on learning and feel safe in the classroom area.Locks were incorporated on the cupboard doors that require a key for access. This provides a neat and organised learning environment, whilst also allowing items to be stored securely. For example, the lockable resource areas are great for storing items that should be kept out of reach of children such as cleaning products, preventing accidents. Creating controlled access for teaching and school staff ensures that the school can maintain a safe learning environment, to keep all classroom focus on learning. Project SuccessFollowing the completion of the project, Team BOYCO visited the school We viewed first-hand both the amazing work Thomas Bewick School does in providing a safe teaching environment for students with a range of abilities associated with Autistic Spectrum Condition, and the fantastic, finished product they received. Whilst attending the school, the customer also expressed that they were extremely pleased with the final results.Team BOYCO is proud to have contributed towards the refurbishment of this SEND school, providing long-lasting and suitable solutions for pupils and staff, as well as catering to their needs. Interested in finding out more about the bespoke products BOYCO can offer? Verulam School

Verulam School

Boyco (UK) Ltd

When a major blaze swept through the sports pavilion at Verulam School in St. Albans, only one thing was left standing in the changing rooms - the Boyco fittings. Even after the roof had fallen in and flames had gutted the changing block, the Boyco benches and peg rails were still firmly in place. The suspected arson attack at the Sandy Pit Lane site caused extensive damage and the entire pavilion needed rebuilding. As a fire fighter at the scene explained "The pavilion was made of wood and concrete with a tar and bitumen roof so it was pretty flammable".Rebuilding the pavilion had to begin straight away to restore full sports facilities to the school. Boyco was asked to join architects Mouchel on the team tasked with building and fitting out new changing rooms – nine years after they designed and supplied the original fittings. Boyco and Mouchel already had a proven partnership having worked together on numerous projects in the past. The timescale was tight. The Boyco team had just a month to present full proposals and design and manufacture the fittings. The team’s made-to-measure design – a replication of the original one - incorporated benches with integral peg rails and shoe trays. The steel fittings were coated in-house at the Boyco factory using the company’s renowned ‘Hot-dip’ nylon technique, exclusive in this sector to Boyco. The coating, derived from 100% renewable castor oil, is four times thicker than other powder coatings and gives fittings superior durability and performance. ‘Hot-dip’ coated fittings offer astonishing resistance to damage, abrasion and, as Verulam School proved, fire. The surface is also exceptionally hygienic with anti-microbial power that reduces bacteria by 99.99%. For added visual impact, ‘Hot-dip’ designs come in wide range of colours. Timber parts of the fittings also bring together superb performance with impressive environmental credentials. Water-borne timber lacquers provide a high quality finish on our standard American White Ash which are non-toxic, anti-microbial and non-flammable. All timbers are sourced from sustainable, fully approved forests.

Ysgol Bro Alun, Gwersyllt

Boyco (UK) Ltd

Boyco were commissioned to supply and install cloakroom fittings and Waterfall® anti-drip worktops for a two-classroom extension at Bro Alun primary school in North Wales. The results are impressive.“The architect had never used us before, but was keen to specify our products, which was very pleasing,” said Boyco Regional Manager Kevin Bond, explaining the background to our project to supply and fit coat hooks and bag trays, and anti-drip worktops for a two-classroom extension at Ysgol Bro Alun in Gwersyllt. The made-to-measure cloakroom fittings were fully assembled when delivered, meaning less time spent on site for installation. They were available in the school’s colours and came with a lifetime guarantee, as well as having an anti-microbial finish. The project took just four months from initial enquiry to handover. As well as the architect’s own research, our early collaboration with stakeholders (including the school headmaster) to discuss the project and review samples helped avoid potential issues. The initial site survey also identified opportunities for Boyco to add value, based on our considerable experience and deep understanding of the education sector. Initially tasked with supplying our Waterfall® laminate worktops, which have a ‘bull-nosed’ edge to prevent spills and drips, we proposed incorporating a handwash basin into the scope of works to avoid potentially expensive design changes and/or retrofittingSince the successful completion of the project, Boyco have been added to Read Construction’s approved supplier list.I was really impressed with the scheme and the furniture installed. Read Construction also said how positive it was working with Boyco.Lawray Architects

In collaboration with Wynne Construction, BOYCO supplied our ‘Built to Last’ education furniture solutions to transform the newly built extension at Ysgol Penyffordd.Project ScopeClose to the borderlands of Wales and England, Ysgol Penyffordd was first constructed in 2018 to offer a modern school learning facility for primary school children.Due to the success of this, a new project arose to extend the current building to increase the capacity of the school. The BOYCO WayBackgroundTried and trusted for over 60 years, BOYCO were called into action after previously working with Wynne Construction on many other projects.Offering end-to-end delivery, starting from design to manufacture and install, our dedicated and friendly project management team provided a bespoke fixed furniture solution that suited the needs of the primary school classroom.Teaching walls were installed as a focal point for learning. Integrated within the structure was storage in the form of draws and cupboards, and to utilise as much space as possible the doors of the Teaching Walls have integrated whiteboards. Along with this providing extra space to organise items and keep the area clutter free, it creates a collaborative environment. Teachers of Ysgol Penyffordd are able to both demonstrate learning points through writing and diagrams, which encourages interaction between the front of the classroom and the learners. In the corner of the classroom, a resource area and sink were installed. Our in-house design team opted to have the sink at a lower level, perfect for use by primary school students who need access. This is a fantastic addition to the classroom, enabling a place for handwashing after subjects like arts and crafts which encourages independence and good hygiene practices in the classroom.BOYCO's cloakroom furniture was also installed. Specifically designed to fit the corner of the classroom, we focused on ensuring it was both easily accessible and utilised as much space as possible. As additional storage, lockers were installed on the opposite side of the room. Not only does this provide a secure space in which students can store items, but it also offers a suitable solution to reducing clutter in the classroom.Bespoke ProductsAs per the BOYCO standard, all the metal work used for the cloakroom furniture is coated in our in-house pioneered ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon. This coating is 4 times thicker than powder coated alternatives for unmatched durability, perfect for a busy learning environment where there is potential for scratches and scrapes against the furniture. BOYCO’s ‘Hot Dip’ Nylon also boasts anti-microbial properties; 99% of all known bacteria cannot survive on the surface. Due to it being a high touch point area, it contributes to the health and safety practices of Ysgol Penyffordd.Anti-microbial properties are found in our timber lacquer which is used in the cloakroom furniture, such as the peg rails and benching slats. This again promotes a hygienic classroom environment and meets with the school’s safety standards, even with daily use by the students. Project SuccessDuring and upon completion of the project, Team BOYCO visited Ysgol Penyffordd. This was both to assist in project management and to see the final results, as well as to view how the classroom looked once it was being used by staff and students. The school expressed that they were overjoyed with the final results. Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, Cardigan

Boyco (UK) Ltd

In collaboration with Wynne Construction, BOYCO assisted in renewing Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi’s facilities including their classrooms, drama studio, IT suites, and science labs. We provided several bespoke fittings, tailored to fulfil the needs of this Secondary school community.Project ScopeSituated near Afon Teifi, Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, (Cardigan School), fosters the motto of ‘every pupil will succeed’. Affirming this statement, the school worked closely with local authorities to initiate the refurbishment of current facilities, and a new build part of the school. The BOYCO Way BackgroundThe goal of the project was to increase the capacity of the school, due to it catering for pupils from Secondary to Sixth Form level. The newly developed learning environments were designed with enough space for staff to teach and support the development of pupils. We worked closely with both our supply chain partners, and Wynne Construction to ensure the running of the project went as smoothly as possible. To support overall sustainability and social value efforts, and to align with our values, we sourced fitters as well as materials local to the project site. This ensured a streamlined installation process for our customer and showcased our commitment to supporting local businesses and the communities that surround our project sites.Fitting to the school’s aesthetic, our in-house designers, in collaboration with architects, worked meticulously to craft products that looked visually appealing and balanced comfort with functionality, adapting to different subject needs and classroom environments. This ranged from the Drama Studio requiring a Teacher Wall to provide an interactive focal point for classroom activities, to Science Lab Worktops robust enough to withstand daily usage by students. Quality Bespoke ProductsIT SuiteCatering for over 650 students, Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi requested that we placed a high emphasis on space saving, and making classroom space usable to the full extent. For the IT Suites, we implemented 'Sawtooth Benching’. This layout angles towards the front of the classroom, providing an ergonomic and optimal view for students, reducing strain. This creates a more comfortable environment for students working on screens.Incorporating this forward slant allows students to effortlessly turn to each other, creating a collaborative environment that positively enriches their learning experience.Considering practicality in daily school life, the benching was designed to facilitate cable management, with dividers positioned in the middle of the table to keep the workspaces tidy and organised. This adds safety for those that use the IT Suites. Science LabWhen designing the Science Laboratories, special considerations were made regarding the worktop surfaces. Due to potential exposure to various chemicals, liquids, and heat, the material needed to be suitable for heavy-duty use and therefore a long-lasting solution was selected. Solid Grade Laminate (SGL) worktops were utilised due to their heavy-duty scratch and wear resistance, impact resistance, and ease of cleaning.A solid material with smooth machinability, it has hydrophobic properties preventing dampness, something traditional tabletops cannot provide. Perfect for bespoke fittings, it was tailored to the specific needs of the customer, whilst also providing an optimal surface finish. For Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi, this created an aesthetically pleasing environment whilst positively contributing to student safety.Following the theme of utilising space, the depths of the worktops were adjusted by BOYCO to align with side walls enabling greater aisle space between the Lab Benching. Enhancing manoeuvrability within the Lab reduces the risk of accidental collisions or spills, and facilitates ease of equipment sharing, contributing to a cooperative learning space. Staff RoomIn conjunction with ensuring an amazing space for students, this project also placed staff spaces at the forefront of works. The staff break out room was renovated to emulate a relaxing, resting space. As per the School's requirement to utilise all space, our in-house designers crafted a Tea Point fixture for Teachers and Visitors to access refreshments. An Econotop Worktop was favoured with its laminate coating, achieving an easy clean surface perfect for food and drink preparation. Customisable by colour, Oak Laminate doors were added alongside the worktop, enhancing the finished structure, and fitting with Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi’s bespoke requests. Project SuccessTeam BOYCO successfully completed a full design, manufacture, supply and install service for this project. Our teams visited the site often throughout the project, ensuring that each element of the works exceeded expectations of all those involved and aligned with our ‘Built to Last’ ethos. We are proud to have worked with Wynne Construction on this refurbishment. We look forward to continuing our ongoing relationship and can’t wait to get started on our next project.
