This presentation looks at the principals on the installation of both bound and unbound paving construction for concrete, stone and porcelain paving. It provides guidance on the British Standards to be used, for installation, along with providing details on the benefits of each of the construction methods. This CPD will provide the urban designer with an overview of the main material types available for the construction of pavements within urban areas along with the principle drivers within the specification process including:- Sustainability criteria of pavement design- Design considerations and current thinking- Review of the main material types and formats available- Case studies of two successful paving projectsThis CPD can be delivered to you live and remotely

- Using open access design software for managing surface water runoff.- Understanding the need for Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in design.- Creating design suggestions which allow easy ‘what if’ scenario’s.- Evaluating the cost implications of differing SuDS options for a design.- Finding out more about the design standards around permeable paving.

This CPD will provide the designer with an overview of the main drivers within the specification process for when Sustainable Drainage Schemes (SUDS) are required as well as an understanding of the value of permeable paving within these schemes. SUDS will become increasingly frequent in the coming years following changes in planning guidance and future legislation.
