The Sigmund Freud Lecture Theatre at the institute of Psychoanalysis in Maida Vale was being refurbished. It was clear the upgrade should include acoustic correction. The reverb in the main lecture theatre was high and many lecturers and attendees had commented on how bad the acoustics were. As they were now going to use the room for recording and remote learning it was crucially important to get the acoustics issue remedied. The lecture theatre was in a historically important building and the IoP wanted to keep the ceiling exposed.TK-Team conducted a site visit and proposed circular ceiling hung 800mm baffles to cover 50% of the space. Baffles were equally spaced and kept above the lighting level so as not to create and shadows.Every body was happy with the outcome, corrected acoustics and the original detail of the ceiling was seen in all it`s glory.

Eluviis OÜ an interior designer asked TK-Team if they could help with a noisy area in a new sprts centre in Finland. We specified a bright and airy combinaation of Hush Light Round acoustic panels  they were both hung from the ceiling and mounted to the wall. It helped to eliminate reverb and reduce unwanted noise. In addition, thes coloured panels were in different shades and suspended levels adding a little playfulness to the room.

Newcastle University Newcastle University's historic Keeton Lomas Lecture Theatre, a Grade 2 listed structure known for its rich history, recently underwent a technological upgrade. The challenge was to modernize this LT into a video conferencing venue, while preserving its historical integrity. To address acoustic issues and ensure a seamless integration of technology, Darren Mitchell (Senior AV Analyst) and Andy Ramsey (AV Lead) designed a concept using six Sennheiser Team Connect microphones integrated into TK-Teams acoustic panels to be installed within the existing lighting arrangement. TK-Team, took on this brief and custom-produced and installed the acoustic panels that integrate the microphones and sit between the lighting bars. This innovative solution not only improved the room's acoustics but also maintained a cohesive, visually appealing design. Despite the installation challenges posed by the building's unique characteristics, the project was completed successfully, resulting in a state-of-the-art video conferencing venue that honours the Armstrong Building's historic significance while embracing modern technology.

Sara Bonfield knew what TK-Team could produce and designed multiple rooms that would have our glass writing surfaces. The room pictured shows a custom glass writing wall in conjunction with twin displays and acoustic wall lining. We produced Glass Writing Boards for many meeting rooms and offices and a stylish Glass WriteWall for the main conference room (pictured). The challenge was to ensure all surfaces were level when finished. The project was completed in co-operation with Forrestfield Studio, and Sara Bonfield.

"You can hear it and feel the difference as soon as you walk in and start to talk"Due to new hybrid working we installed VC kit that better enabled remote calls and meetings for staff. When in-person colleagues around the meeting table would be in conversation with each other, audio would often cut out for those joining remotely, no matter how many speakers and microphones we had in the room. Generally, this was a poor meeting experience for those joining online and we had received feedback about this from our staff. Ceilings in the room are high with concrete beams and so this was probably contributing to the issues.

BackgroundIn response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Universityinvested heavily in transforming as many spaces as possible into video-enabled environments. The University quickly identified a substantial problem affecting the overall video collaboration experience in these spaces. Both in room and remote participants were avoiding the spaces due to the poor user experience in the spaces. The SolutionTK-Team immediately knew that the issues related to Reverbration Time (RT) post-survey, a detailed proposal was presented. The University promptly decided that they were happy with the proposed plan and agreed to proceed with installation.Optimised Room Performance with TK-TeamAcoustic PanelsEach panel has been customised in colour, to closelyreflect the University's crest colours, giving each space apersonalised look and feel throughout.Regardless of the size of the groups, the implementation ofthe new acoustic panels has crucially enhanced each spacefor both University staff and external partners.Consequently, the University has reported a substantialincrease in usage of the facilities by staff members, both onsite and remote due to the significant improvements made.Concentration and communication levels are up, and stress levels are down. The thorough before and after testing conducted by TK-Team enabledthe University to experience a noticeable difference inReverberation Time and noise levels in each meeting space.

TK-Team were asked to help with reverberation issues in a room used for VC. Below are comments made by Kevin Close of Hull University. With more and more meetings being scheduled online since the pandemic, we had a request to enable a meeting room with video conference facilities. One thing that was immediately noticed, post install, was that people at the far end we’re having issues hearing people in the meeting room due to the acoustics in the room. The configuration of the room with flat solid walls, ceiling and whiteboards meant this space had a lot of reverb/echo. After some thought, it was obvious acoustic treatment was required in the space, we consulted with GVAV who offered us some solutions, we then spoke in depth with Lee from TK-Team who visited us and surveyed the room. Lee identified the main issue being reflection from the ceiling and explained that is where we should start. TK-Team worked with us and designed us a tailor-made solution for the room using Hush Acoustic ceiling tiles, all in our choice of colours and shapes, the solution was procured via GVAV and installation was very smooth and finished in a timely manner. The acoustic quality of the room, not just for local meetings but for remote participants was vastly improved. The difference in the room has been described as ‘staggering’. As such, this is now a heavily used meeting space and has highlighted the advantages of looking at and dealing with acoustic issues within meeting spaces on campus going forward.Kev Close
