This seminar aims to cover the consultancy process to promote the benefits of early engagement with suppliers to assist with the design and development of projects. It aims to provide an understanding of how different project specific requirements can affect the design and specification of a building. It discusses how manufacturers can assist throughout the whole process of a project, from initial preliminary design works through to completion and final handover on site. Covering topics such as energy and indoor climate, acoustics, performance, sustainability, BIM, design and installation and detailing. It will help you to understand the following topics: - How different specification requirements can have an impact on the materials chosen and the design of the building - The suppliers’ responsibilities regarding compliance to Building Regulations - The nature and scope of window specifications - The benefits of early engagement with suppliers

This article looks at the frame materials available within the window industry; uPVC, aluminium, timber and composite aluminium/timber are reviewed together with their impact on the environment, energy consumption during the manufacturing processes and the overall lifecycle of each material from cradle to grave. The expected durability and maintenance requirements of each material along with the economic benefits are also considered.

This seminar aims to cover design, detailing and installation and provide an understanding of how windows interface with the different construction methods and build-ups commonly used. It discusses how build sequence can affect the design, installation and sealing methodologies used, and how manufacturers can assist from early stage guidance and support through to provision of full interface details used for successful installation. It will help you to understand the following topic - The different methods of wall construction and how windows are typically detailed for installation - The importance of weathertight sealants, and the materials available - The impact sequence of build, and sequence of window installation can have on interface detailing and the overall build - The suppliers’ responsibilities regarding design and compliance to building regulations - Installation methodologies, and protection available during the build program

Window specification can be complex, we need to consider the levels of light required in a room, the need to create a safe and secure environment, all whilst protecting against the Earth’s natural elements and other man-made factors such as noise and pollution. This article looks at thermal performance, solar control and acoustic performance. It will also identify how we finalise the specification of a window system, considering Building Regulations but also the additional requirements of third parties such as M&E consultants, acousticians or employers requirements, all of which can influence the overall design and cost of your building

This visit to Window Village in Gdansk, Poland, is by invitation only and limited to a maximum of 4 people. It takes place over 2 days, Velfac will arrange and cover costs of flights, hotel and meals. Attendees must be fit to fly and able to walk around the factory. They will need to arrange their own travel insurance and European Health Insurance Card. Day one allows for travel, evening meal and a chance to explore Old Town Gdansk. Day two consists of the factory tour and presentations, meal and flight home. The tour will cover the following elements: - Welcome to Window Village presentation - Factory tour of engineering, painting and assembly processes - Quality presentation and walk through production quality processes - Visit wood warehouse and powder coating production process - Summary of visit and question and answer session
