Application

A bespoke architectural GRC cladding that offers a lightweight alternative to precast facades.

Description

Glassfibre reinforced concrete (GRC) is a composite material with exceptional flexural capacity, and in architectural applications, this offers a versatile, lightweight alternative to precast facades.

Manufactured from a range of raw materials including Portland cement, silica sand, acrylic polymers and alkali-resistant fibres, our material is sprayed as a slurry into bespoke moulds for each project, and built up in thin layers until the required thickness is achieved. The material is rolled and compacted between each layer. Once demoulded, each unit is allowed to cure. The polymer in the material allows our units to be exposed to the atmosphere without wet curing and increases the material's long-term durability.

Spraying the material allows for even distribution and orientation of fibres, which enhances the strength of the material versus poured GRC. BCM GRC's process ensures that the GRC manufactured is the highest grade of GRC strength available on the market – Grade 18P.

Features and benefits:

  • GRC is lighter than traditional concrete, making it easier to handle and install.
  • Outstanding structural performance due to the inclusion of glass fibres which enhance the tensile strength of the material.
  • Resistant to weathering, corrosion and fire.
  • Easy to install.
  • Highly versatile.
  • Environmentally friendly.

Premix sprayable process.

Guidance for specification option:

GRC mix applied to a bespoke mould via simultaneous spray; the method of spraying the material through a gun which is fed with the cementitious slurry and also a continuous roving of glassfibre. As the slurry passes through the gun, a blade within the gun chops the fibre into small, equal-sized strands, which are evenly dispersed within the slurry when it is expelled from the gun.
