Application

  • Applications include brick, block, stonework, rendering and repointing, both internally and externally.
  • Suitable for bricklaying, blocklaying and stone masonry work in internal and external applications.
  • Suitable for new build structures due to the enhanced flexibility, reducing the number of vertical movement joints required.
  • Suitable for use in listed and heritage buildings.
  • M2.5 is medium strength lime mortar known as moderate mix and typically used for standard building works and masonry types, brickwork, blockwork and stone. M5.0 is high strength lime mortar known as eminent mix where a higher level of durability is required below DPC and in exposed areas such as chimneys, copings, or canals/marine work. It provides faster, harder set and offers higher resistance to the freeze/thaw cycle along with high resistance to sulfates attack.
  • The flexible nature of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar means that a reduced amount of vertical movement joints is required. Autogenous healing and tolerance to structural movement reduces the chance of cracking. Lime mortar is 'hygroscopic' through its open pore structure; it allows free flow of moisture in and out of the building allowing it to 'breathe' Naturally aseptic; preventing damp, green mould and moisture build up in the walls, creating a 'healthier building'.

Description

A cement-free blend of natural hydraulic lime and selected aggregates. The mortar is highly workable and combines long term flexibility and breathability with durability. The mortar is available in two aggregate grades, 4 mm grit for standard wider 10mm joints and 2 mm grit for thin joint work, in a range of six colours. Both mortars are available in two strength types M2.5 and M5.0 - also known as HLM2.5 & HLM5.0.

The near zero expansion of NHL binders and the elasticity of pure NHL mortars are such that joint free construction is possible.

Features and benefits:

  • Lime based, Portland cement free.
  • Long term durability and flexibility.
  • Easy to use, just add water.
  • Masonry walls built with Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar have improved breathability – increasing the resistance to frost and damp.
  • Lime based mortars are less susceptible to sulphate attack.
  • The flexible nature of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar means that a reduced amount of vertical movement joints are required and this reduces the chance of cracking.
  • Factory supplied and quality controlled.
  • Suitable for use in listed and heritage buildings.
  • Environmentally friendly - Lime mortars actively absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.
  • Brickwork can easily be cleaned with water, unlike cement based mortars.

Typical yield

Laying: 25 bricks, Re-pointing: 2.8 m² (approximate per 25 kg bag).

Guidance for specification option:

  • One 25 kg bag of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar will lay approximately 25 bricks with a 10 mm joint for a single brick skin or 1000 bricks per tonne of mortar.
  • For re-pointing one 25 kg bag will produce approximately 2.8 m² with a 10 mm joint.
  • One tonne of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar will lay a maximum of 1000 number 65 mm bricks or 600 number 100 mm blocks or 430 number 140 mm blocks.
  • No wastage factor is allowed.

Certification

Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar is factory blended, tested and packaged to quality control procedures in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001.

Shelf life

6 months (subject to temperature and humidity).

Guidance for specification option:

  • The product should be used on a first in – first out basis.
  • Avoid exposure to water, frost or heat – extremes in temperatures and high humidity will lead to a reduced shelf life.

Minimum storage temperature

Minimum: 5°C, Maximum: 30°C.

Guidance for specification option:

  • Individual bags of Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar should be stored in sealed original packaging in a dry location at temperatures between 5°C and 30°C.
  • Palletized Limelite Heritage Lime Mortar should be stored in cool dry areas clear of the ground, sheeted or under cover and stacked not more than two pallets high.
