A versatile, high-strength butyl jointing and sealing tape.
Used to provide an airtight and moisture vapour tight joint and seal with vapour control layers, airtightness membranes and gas barriers.
Surfaces must always be clean, dry and free of any chalky or dusty residues when applying to concrete areas.
Butyl tape is vital to maintain airtightness and moisture vapour tightness in areas where mechanical fixings pass through a membrane. The butyl tape reseals around the fixing preventing leakage. This is especially important in areas where airtightness is important such as with Passive house type builds and of course where the butyl tape is being used to seal gas membranes against the leakage of toxic and dangerous gasses.
Butyl tape installations must always have a secondary overlap layer of either Novia metallised 'BOPP' overlap tape or the BS476 foil overlap tape. This additional tape ensure a complete seal and removing and risk of leakage. Further sealing and bonding can be completed with Novia AirSeal310 which is a cartridge applied mastic sealant. Further details of this can be found at https://novia.co.uk/tapes/airseal310-sealant
A high performance polyisobutylene (PIB) based sealing tape that is cost effective and non-toxic. No tools are required for application.
