Application

For flat roofs under built-up felt, mastic asphalt and single-ply membrane waterproofing systems.

Description

Powerdeck® F is a high performance rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam board for use in warm flat roofs under built-up felt, mastic asphalt and approved single ply membrane waterproofing systems. It is faced both sides with a mineral coated glass tissue.

Mastic asphalt waterproofing

An isolating layer of Type 4A sheathing felt must always be used in mastic asphalt waterproofing systems. This isolates the asphalt from movement in the substrate, allows the lateral movement of moisture vapour and warm air during installation of the asphalt and acts as a vapour pressure release in service.

Roof drainage

To ensure adequate drainage the roof should have a minimum finished fall of 1:80. This may mean designing for twice the minimum finished fall to account for building inaccuracies, roof deflection and building settlement. Powerdeck® F boards are also available for tapered insulation schemes.

Thermal bridging

With increasing levels of insulation it is important to ensure the continuity of insulation at the junction of elements.

Wind uplift

The wind uplift force exerted on the roof will vary according to geographical location, site location and building height. Reference should be made to BS 6229 for adequate bonding of the vapour control layer to the deck to help resist wind uplift. Calculations relating to the bonding and any supplementary fixings should be made with reference to BS 6399.

Features and benefits:

  • Manufactured to ISO 9001 Quality and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Manufactured using a blowing agent with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and low global warming potential (GWP).
  • Thermal conductivity as low as 0.024 W/m·K (depending on thickness).
  • Available in tapered format to assist roof drainage.
  • No requirement for roof ventilation and condensation within the roof is avoided as the structure is maintained at the internal temperature.
  • CE marked in accordance with harmonized European standard EN 13165.

Specification data - Polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam boards

Standard

To BS EN 13165.

Third-party certification

BBA certification.

Fire performance

Reaction to fire (product as such) - EN 13501-1 - Euroclass F.

Guidance for specification option:

When tested in accordance with BS 476-3 and CEN/TS 1187, a system comprising 18 mm plywood deck, a polyester reinforced aluminium core VCL, a 120 mm thick insulation board, a layer of 1.7 mm thick IKO Systems S-A underlay and a IKO Ultra prevENt bitumen membrane, achieved an EXT.F.AC and Broof(t4) (Low vulnerability in Scotland) rating respectively and is acceptable for use less than 6 m from a relevant boundary.

Compressive strength at 10% deformation

Exceeds 150 kPa at yield.

Guidance for specification option:

Suitable for loads associated with maintenance traffic. For heavier traffic, extra precautions should be taken (consult the waterproofing manufacturer for appropriate details). Care must be taken to avoid damage to boards by impact or concentrated loads during installation.
