Application

Allows the designer to incorporate Metal Technology windows into wall cladding systems.

Description

Panel adaptor.

Features and benefits:

  • Dual colour window system designed for retro-fitting into openings formed within panelled walling, to avoid many of the on-site co-ordination issues associated with this form of installation. Compatible with 70, 80, 100 or 120 mm thick panels, such as those manufactured by Kingspan and Ward; use with other panel systems can be approved by Metal Technology’s Technical Department.
  • Windows sit flush with the external surface of the panel system, eliminating the need for additional visible liner sections, minimizing sight lines, and reducing costs.
  • Profiles are extruded from aluminium alloy (6060 T6, T5 or T4 to BS EN 12020-2/ BS 755-9). Outer frame sections are 70 mm deep, and incorporate two polyamide thermal break sections. Structural profiles are designed so that the maximum deflection of any member will not exceed 1/175 of its span, with no evidence of permanent deformation once the load has been removed.
  • Windows are manufactured using a single outer frame, with no additional liner bars at head or sill. At junctions between windows and cladding panels, ‘snap-on’ end liners accommodate the panels (70 or 80 mm as required); end liners are concealed by a ‘top hat’ pressure plate which maintains equal sight lines to the head, jambs and sill. A snap-on trim, finished to match the panels, is used to conceal panel fixings at the sill.
  • Joints in outer frame and vent members are formed with 45° mitres, reinforced with extruded aluminium cleats and stainless steel corner braces. Corners are pneumatically crimped. Mullions and transoms are secured using stainless steel screws driven into snap-in fixing cleats located into the bead grooves within the sections. Joints are sealed using a small gap sealant.
  • The windows have a pressure equalized drainage system with ‘snap-on’ drainage cover caps to the outer frame.
  • A continuous EPDM membrane, with pre-moulded corner pieces, separates the windows from the cladding panel at the head; the membrane runs the full length of the windows, acting as a dpc and ensuring any water within the panel system is directed out of the building, above the windows. The panel drainage and window drainage systems remain separate.
  • With suitable glazing, windows can contribute to meeting the requirements of Building Regulations for conservation of heat and power.
  • The windows provide Class IV weathertightness as defined by BS 6375-1 and BS 5368:
  • Air permeability: 600 Pa.
  • Watertightness: 600 Pa.
  • Wind resistance: 2400 Pa.
  • Lugs and/ or frame anchors used to secure windows to the building structure must accommodate predicted loads and deflection within design tolerances. Generally, fixings should be positioned 150 mm from each corner and each mullion/ transom, and at centres not exceeding 600 mm. Fixing lugs/ straps should be used only where they can be suitably concealed.
  • Polyester powder-coated to BS 6496, with the option of different interior and exterior colours.
  • Internal beading accommodates a range of insulating glass units. Windows are dry glazed on site using ‘snap in’ extruded aluminium beads with colour coded, co-extruded, PVC nitrile, captive ‘E’ gaskets externally and ‘wedge’ gaskets internally. Gasket corners must be accurately mitred and sealed.
  • The thermal performance of System 24 is further enhanced by the introduction of specially designed thermal foams, resulting in the system being known as System 24 Hi+. These foams reduce radiation heat loss across the air cavity in the window profiles to provide additional thermal enhancement. Where a less onerous thermal specification is required the foams may be omitted, resulting in the system being referred to as System 24.
