Case Study: Redevelopment of the Historical Ice Works Building in Worcester

OVERVIEW

Zebra Architects were commissioned to handle both the planning and technical work for the redevelopment of the historic Ice Works building in Worcester. The project involved a combination of newly constructed buildings and the conversion of a historic mill, creating a total of 54 apartments on Bromyard Road, St Johns, Worcester. The development was divided into three phases, with the final phase (Phase 3) focusing on the Mill block, comprising 12 two-bedroom apartments, all featuring underfloor heating throughout.

For Phase 3, Resonate Systems’ GYPDECK 18 + UFH was selected due to the building's need for a high-performance soundproofing and underfloor heating solution. GYPDECK 18 dry screed panels were installed alongside ResoTherm XPS R insulation boards and ResoFleece, delivering a complete underfloor heating and acoustic system tailored to the residential nature of the development.

Underfloor Heating Supply Limited were supplied with 900m² of Resonate Systems products for Phase 3. Stephen Featherstone, Director of Underfloor Heating Supply Limited, commented, "All product deliveries arrived on time and were well palletised. The installation process was straightforward, thanks to the comprehensive on-site training provided by Resonate Systems."

This redevelopment project successfully combined historical preservation with modern living solutions, ensuring both aesthetic and functional excellence.
