Aluminium roller shutter Birmingham Dogs Home

Aluminium roller shutter Birmingham Dogs Home

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

Birmingham Dogs Home cares for stray and abandoned dogs from across the West Midlands and South Staffordshire. The support staff required a lightweight internal shutter that provided optimal security for their newly refurbished reception area. There are people working at the rescue centre 365 days of the year and also most parts of the day. But the reception-area is open only during office hours and the staff wanted to be able to close it off when it's not in use. This allows them to focus on tasks such as dog-care, administration and housekeeping, while the reception desk is safely locked.Solid white aluminium lathWe installed an electrically-operated, lightweight, aluminium roller shutter to the reception area. Our aluminium roller shutters are available solid, perforated or punched, and in an array of colours (in fact if you can think of the colour we can probably match it!). At the Birmingham Dogs Home a roller shutter with solid white lath was the best choice, so that's what we supplied and installed.Reception roller shutter considerationsReception roller shutters are usually not as big as for example a shop-front roller shutter. They are also installed indoors and typically used to close-off lower-risk areas. On top of that aesthetics are important. So big, bulky roller shutters are normally not the way to go. Instead a reception roller shutter needs to be elegant and blend in with its surroundings. Therefore, over reception desks we usually install relatively lightweight roller shutters with smaller roller mechanisms.Sometimes, when there is enough space, it's possible to place the roller mechanism above the ceiling. Otherwise the roller mechanism is typically placed on the staff-side, for example behind the top wall (that's what we did at this project). This way the visitor-side looks the most welcoming.Alternative security shutter types for reception areas. The K25 we installed on this project is a popular reception roller shutter choice, but there are other options as well. Below are some alternative options. Every situation is different, so if you have a reception area that needs a security shutter, feel free to get in touch with us. We'll be happy to advise you on the best option for your situation.A transparent roller shutterA roller shutter with lots of airflowA lightweight PVC roller shutterA sliding shutter that opens horizontally instead of verticallyA high-end real timber roller shutter

Aluminium Roller Shutters at the Sea Shanty Beach Cafe in Branscombe

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

Oh, we do like to be beside the sea-side! You can spot our shutters across various locations along the South West Coastline, from Plymouth to Bournemouth and everywhere in between. And one of those places is the Sea Shanty Beach Cafe in Branscombe, on a particularly beautiful stretch of the Jurassic coast between Sidmouth and Seaton.Fitting of electronically operated roller shutters in BranscombeWe sent our hardworking engineers for a day trip to the very beautiful village of Branscombe, where they fitted a pair of our K25 electric roller shutters in the popular colour of Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016).If you ever visit the Sea Shanty in Branscombe you can see our shutters sitting proudly in the restaurant and the ice-cream kiosk. Our engineers highly recommend the fish and chips and ice-creamAbout the roller shutters used on this projectAt this project we installed K25 aluminium roller shutters. They were the perfect choice because of two main reasons:K25 roller shutters require the least amount of space of all our roller shutters; they have small guiderails and a small shutter box. So they leave maximum opening space.Aluminium generally doesn't rust when it comes in contact with water. Salt water can be an exception to that, which is why these roller shutters have an additional protective powder coated layer to them. This gives them not only their colour, but also prevents any salt ocean air or water from reaching the metal, preventing contact and corrosion, and keeping the shutters in great shape.Next to that our aluminium roller shutters are cost-effective. The K25 shutter is lightweight and strong, quiet in operation and requires little maintenance.

Aluminium Roller Shutters for Thorn Jewellers in Bude, Cornwall

Aluminium Roller Shutters for Thorn Jewellers in Bude, Cornwall

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

We recently had the pleasure of replacing the roller shutters at Thorn Jewellers in Bude, Cornwall. We fitted the first set of roller shutters at the store in 2003 and twenty years later it was time to replace the shutters with something new.In this case-study we look at the K25 Perforated Aluminium Roller shutter and why it was the right choice for this jewellery shop.Security Shutter Considerations for Jewellery ShopsSecurity shutters play a big role in safeguarding jewellery shops, serving as the first line of defense against potential break-ins. For a Jewellery Shop such as Thorn's, who also do repairs, ensuring the safety of their inventory gives peace of mind to both the shop owners and their customers.Roller shutters give a clear signal that the shop is well-secured. And because modern security shutters can offer a blend of security and elegance, their design allows the jewellery shop to maintain its aesthetic appeal even after opening hours. So high-quality security shutters are an important investment for jewellery shops, that can help uphold their reputation for quality and trustworthiness, creating a secure environment where customers can shop with confidence.Choosing the right type of roller shutterAfter two decades of reliable service, Thorn Jewellers recognized the need for a security update. The challenge was to balance robust security with an elegant design that would not obscure the view of their merchandise. Considering Bude's coastal location and the salty winds that often sweep through the town, we recommended a set of K25 perforated roller shutters, crafted from durable aluminium ideal for seaside environments.K25 Perforated Roller ShuttersHVP Security Shutters installed a pair of K25 aluminium perforated roller shutters at Thorn Jewellers. The K25 is not just a security feature; it's an elegant addition to the storefront. These shutters, made from lightweight yet robust aluminium, provide the necessary security the shop required without compromising aesthetics. The perforated design allows for back lighting, ensuring the jewellers' offerings are visible to passersby through the shutter even after dusk.Benefits of K25 Perforated Roller ShuttersEnhanced Security: Crafted from high-quality aluminium, the K77 roller shutters provide formidable security, protecting Thorn Jewellers from potential threats.Elegance in Design: The elegant perforated design adds a touch of sophistication to the storefront, enhancing the overall appeal of Thorn Jewellers.Visibility: By strategically backlighting the roller shutters in the evenings, Thorn Jewellers maintains visibility, allowing the allure of their collection to shine through, even when the store is closed.Seaside Resilience: Designed to withstand coastal environments, the aluminium construction of the K25 shutters ensures durability against salty winds and corrosion, making them a perfect fit for Bude's coastal atmosphere.Aluminium Roller Shutters: Lightweight and StrongAluminium roller shutters are a lightweight alternative to heavier steel roller shutters. They are often preferable in coastal environments, because they're less susceptible to corrosion.HVP supply and install different types of aluminium shutters, each with their own benefits. Depending on the project we can supply smaller aluminium shutters, as well as medium-sized and larger aluminium roller shutters. Or, as was the case here in Bude, a custom-made solution that fits perfectly where it needs to be.More information on aluminium roller shuttersThe installation of the K25 perforated roller shutters at Thorn Jewellers, highlights the effectiveness of these shutters in enhancing security while preserving visibility, ensuring both security and visibility are perfectly balanced.

Work on refurbishing the Shelter Hall on the Brighton seafront originally began in October 2015 and took longer than anticipated to complete. One of the reasons was that it's an historic building (originally from the 19th century) with particular design issues that needed resolving.A council spokesperson said that "With a showpiece building of this kind it's important that we take the time to make sure everything is right."Preperatory worksAfter two years of work to demolish the original building, strengthen the historic Kings Road arches, support the upper promenade and prevent the seafront road from collapse, the new Shelter Hall is emerging from behind the hoardings.Installation of Armourshield grilles for securityAs part of the redevelopment HVP were asked to provide ten of their Armourshield style shutter that suited the redevelopment perfectly. The Armourshield shutter offers security with style. With its more classical look, the Armourshield allowed the Council and planners to keep the style of the building whilst still being able to secure it.

Bar Roller Shutters at Hatherleigh Cricket Club near Okehampton

Bar Roller Shutters at Hatherleigh Cricket Club near Okehampton

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

Hatherleigh is a rural little town in Devon, just north of Okehampton. We installed roller shutters to the bar at Hatherleigh's cricket club.Perforated roller shutters for the barHVP manufactured and installed a pair of microperforated security shutters for the bar. And because the shutters were being fitted to an ornate stone, they were powder-coated in a light grey to highlight the stone on the bar.Practicalities of bar roller shuttersCompared to windows and doors, bars have a relatively low opening. Because security shutters often roll up vertically, the roller mechanism can take up valuable headspace, especially at an existing bar. If there is enough space in the bar's bulkhead, we can often fit the roller mechaniscms in there. Another option is to put the rollers above the ceiling.Angles to work withBars also are often angled, with one side of the bar at right angles with the other. This creates useful extra seving area, but means we have to come up with a solution to install the shutters next to each other at an angle. Here in Hatherleigh there was already a cornerpost in place, so we could fit our shutter's guiderails onto that. In situations where there is no corner-post we can manufacture a removable corner post that can be put into place when the bar closes and removed when it's open.Roller mechanisms should not clashThe roller mechanisms at the top also shouldn't be in each other's way. At HCC we achieved this by pointing them outwards from the bar. Sometimes this is not possible and when the rollers are on the inside of the bar one has to sit above the other. An alternative to bar roller shuttersSo there are various practical and technical considerations to make before installing a set of bar roller shutters. If traditional roller shutters don't work for some reason or are not desired, then a horizontally sliding security shutter is often an excellent solution. That's why we often install one of our FlexiGlide shutters to bar areas. All these considerations also hold for reception areas, so bar and reception shutters are very similar in that sense.Hatherleigh is located in a beautiful part of Devon, just north of Okehampton. And what better than on a lazy summer’s afternoon watching cricket at the Hatherleigh Cricket Club (HCC). And of course watching cricket is even better with some refreshments. That's why HCC's bar is always popular in the summertime. But when it's not in use the club wanted to be able to close it off, and that's why they commisioned us to install a pair of security shutters to the bar.

Bournemouth Airport - Joe's Coffee House - Classic Chainlink sliding shutters

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

Go to almost any airport in the UK and you will find our shutters there. It's the same at Bournemouth Airport. In this case study we look at a set of FlexiGlide sliding shutters of the type Classic Chainlink.Joes Coffee House at Bournemouth Airport is a large open plan coffee shop. As with most airports Bournemouth is open nearly 24 hours a day, but Joes Coffee House is not, and so they needed to be able to secure the property out of hours.Considerations for FlexiGlide sliding shuttersThere were a few considerations here. Firstly, rather than try and secure the complete open plan coffee shop (which would take a much bigger security shutter) Joes Coffee decided to only secure the counter area. This way the counter and till could be closed off, whilst keeping the cost down as much as possible.Secondly, our sliding shutters can easily go around corners, which turned out to be ideal at the counter area. Also, they take up much less space at the top, which meant that more of the servery could remain open. So that's why a sliding shutter was preferred over a set of traditional roller shutters. Finally, the Classic Chainlink was chosen because it requires less curtain material. This makes it relatively lightweight and economic. Also, because the coffee shop is inside the airport terminal building where there is almost always personnel around, high security was less of a concern and a more open shutter was the right choice.Advantages of FlexiGlide sliding folding shuttersCompared to tradtional roller shutters, sliding shutters offer numerous advantages, especially in situations like here at Bournemouth Airport.FlexiGlide sliding shutters can follow any curve, so they are perfect for rounded and curved openings; Our sliding shutters are made from strong but lightweight aluminium, so they need much less support than traditional roller shutters;FlexiGlide shutters hang down from a top-track that needs only a couple of inches space. Compared to traditional roller shutters, which typically need around a foot of space at the top, that's a minimum amount of headroom; We supply sliding shutters in various designs, from fully closed off to completely transparent and everything in between. There's always a sliding shutter that will work well in your situation.FlexiGlide sliding shutters work without the need for a bottom track. So there is nothing on the floor for people to trip over.

Bristol Bus and Coach Station is an important public transport hub for the southwest. From here coaches travel throughout the UK, while local buses serve the city of Bristol. The facilities are situated on Marlborough Street, near the Broadmead shopping area. There had been a bus-station there from the late fifties, but the site was redeveloped and the current bus station opened its doors in 2006.As part of a recent revamp, we were contracted to install a FlexiGlide sliding, folding security shutter to the Coffee Room inside the station. Bristol Bus and Coach Station is opened 24/7, but the Coffee Rooms are not, and so they wanted to be able to close and secure their shop outside of working hours.Sliding shutter installation Coffee Room Bristol Bus StationLimited head space and a sloping floor were two of the things we needed to get over at Bristol Bus Station. Our Flexiglide sliding shutter in its solid Protector format was perfect for the job.Stacking to one side completely out of the way during the day leaves the opening clear for customers. And only running on a top track made sure that maximum headroom stayed available. Our engineers had a great time fitting the sliding shutter. Throughout the installation the station was in operation and this ensured a steady stream of passersby looking on at what we were doing.A light and inviting spaceThe revamp that's happened at Bristol coach station has resulted in a light and inviting space. The building is is all new and modern now, and inside provides a warm, dry space that you can wait for your bus in. There are loads of seats, regularly cleaned toilets and a coffee bar (with our sliding shutters, check it out when you're there) selling snacks and... coffee.

As part of the complete strip out and reform of a new recreational area and hub café at Coventry University we were privileged to have been chosen to provide the roller shutters for the café area. It’s unusual for us to see the before and after, because typically our shutters go in before the project is finished and before the finishing touches have been put in place. But on this occasion we were invited back to look at the finished result.Roller mechanism above ceilingThe shutters operate with electrical motors and roll up onto barrels that sit above the ceiling. They have T-shaped aluminium bottom-bars that close off the gap in the ceiling, leaving only a neat strip visible.Guiderails at the side of the shutter (to hold the shutter in place) are recessed in the pillars, and so blend in beautifully. One shutter roller above anotherThe shutters sit at right angles to each other. And because they are close together we used the space above the ceiling to place one roller above the other.

Cruise Ship Roller Shutters at TUI Cruises' Mein Schiff

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

Over the last five years HVP have had the contract for the roller shutters on all the 5 star cruise ships of TUI Cruises owned Mein Schiff. We have worked on some amazing projects over the years but this contract is going to take some beating.Because lets face it, not everyone gets excited about shutters. But unfortunately it's an occupational hazard here at HVP ;-)However, roller shutters do not have to be drab or dreary and we are doing our best to give them a better reputation. For the 'Mein Schiff' series cruise ships, we supplied two types of shutters. Firstly, the Facade transparent polycarbonate shutter, a transparent security shutters with superior visibility and exceptional strength. And secondly, the Armourshield Roller Grille, which offers tough security with good visibility and airflow. Here we take a look at the Armourshields installed at the ships. From drawing to shutterThe cruise ships are completely refurbished on a standard schedule, and at that time the shutters are changed as well. We work together with the shipyard and create drawings to the specifications they supply.Extra support for sea journeysThese cruise-ships travel the whole world, going on extended journeys, visiting the Carribean, the America's, Europe, the Orient and Asia. So they are built to the highest standards and need to be able to withstand any kind of weather they may encounter. Therefore, in addition to the normal safety features such as safety brakes, the shutters also receive extra support at the time of installation. Also see the anatomy of a roller shutter for more information.Open space for visibility and airflowOur shutters are used in the on-board shoping centre to close off the shops outside of opening hours. The Armourshield's design gives lots of open space and airflow, which creates the right ambiance for the ships' shopping arcades.Armourshield grilles are available in various configurations, and the shipyard chose the o-ring setup which creates a nice balanced pattern.

Curved Reception Desk Sliding Security Shutter London

Curved Reception Desk Sliding Security Shutter London

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

Gracefields was a newly constructed health centre in London. As part of the construction a large reception area got built, with curved desks which needed to be secured out of hours. The use of our Vision Air sliding curved shutter made perfect sense for it.Sliding folding security shutters are an excellent choice for curved reception desksCurved reception desks have an elegance to them that's not only very pleasing to the eye, but also very practical, especially in a health centre like here. The soft lines mean that there are no hard or sharp edges that anyone can hurt themselves on. Moreover, the curved design feels more welcoming to visitors than a reception desk with straight corners. It's only logical then to follow this design aesthetic when installing a security shutter. Traditional roller shutters work well for straight and square openings, like most windows and doors. But they cannot be bent to follow a curve. FlexiGlide sliding security shutters however, are designed especially with curved openings in mind.FlexiGlide security shutters hang from an extruded aluminium top-track (the track is only 46mm high and can even be countersunk if necessary), and slide horizontally instead of rolling vertically. The curtain follows the shape of the top-track, which can be curved in almost any shape.Slding shutter with elegant curvesThe photos above show the shutter in its closed position. When opened it slides out of the way completely, leaving the opening totally free. The whole shutter folds away into a custom made box (typically set inside a hollow wall or partition), and the only things hinting at its existence are the top-track and the pound-coin-sized floor sockets.

Design Centre, Chelsea Wharf, London - Barrier sliding shutters

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

We installed one of our sliding shutters at Chelsea Harbour Design Centre. The venue is a hub for everything to do with design. It hosts a large shopping centre and offices, and acts as a central hub for anyone who works in design or is interested in it.On the ground floor of the building is a central meeting point and café coffee shop. To secure the café out of hours the architect specified our Flexiglide Barrier style sliding curved shutter.Securing the curved openingWith the benefit of stacking completely out of the way when the café is open, but securing the curved opening when closed, our Flexiglide shutter system was an obvious choice. The shutter is situated at the café entrance and spans the whole opening from left to right and ceiling to floor. No obstructions to the openingBecause FlexiGlide sliding shutters fold up and away horizontally, there’s nothing obstructing the opening when the shutter is not in use. At the ceiling there’s only a low top-track, a rail, that the shutter hangs from. And at the floor there are just a few spring-capped sockets (nearly flush with the floor) that the shutter locks into.About the Design CentreThe Design Centre is located at Chelsea Harbour in London, a modern mixed development in Hammersmith and Fulham. It’s expanded over the years and contains a lot of interesting ideas. The building itself consists of a series of domes connected by winding stairs, and the glazed domes give it plenty of natural light. The Dome CaféLocated at the ground floor of the South Dome, the café is a place for coffee, breakfast, or lunch. It’s open on weekdays from 8AM to 5PM. Outside those times our sliding shutter closes off access to the café.One of the reasons for choosing the barrier style sliding shutter was its design with an open and closed pattern. The Dome Café sits in a relaxed, airy space, and the security mirrors that. Light falling through the shutter curtain creates interesting patterns on the floor, and the open design allows air to flow through even when the shutter is closed.More information about sliding shuttersSliding shutters can be an excellent choice for securing all kinds of openings. They work well to secure large, open-plan kind of openings such as restaurants and cafés, and stores in shopping centres. But sliding shutters are also very suited to secure reception desks and window-displays (when installed behind glass). If you are considering security shutters for a project, we'd welcome the oppountunity to talk it through with you and discuss if one of our FlexiGlide shutters would be a good match. We can meet you on site to see the actual opening you require shutters for, or work from design drawings.

However, traditional roller shutters would not work for the coffee shop setup.Initially it was unclear how to how best secure the Coffee Shop, as it was based in a very open area, while the high ceiling and limited support structure did not lend themselves well to traditional roller shutters.Importance of the right support structureFlexiGlide sliding shutters are made from aluminium, which makes them relatively lightweight, compared to roller shutters. Still, the structure that a sliding shutter hangs from has to be able to support the weight of the shutter along its entire length (also see FlexiGlide design and build guidelines). The curtain of a sliding shutter hangs from an extruded aluminium track, which normally fixes onto the ceiling structure.Typically, the shutter track screws onto the ceiling structure and can be either recessed or left visible. The shutter curtain then hangs from this top-track through a system of hangers and rollers. This allows the shutter to slide horizontally along the track. When it reaches the end of the track, it concertinas up.Supporting the track and shutter at Bristol UniversityThe designers realised that, with a few adjustments to the area, our Flexiglide sliding shutter system would work perfectly. There was timber slat system to the ceiling area, meaning we could not take the shutter to the ceiling. The answer was to fit Unistrut through the timber slates down to the height of the shutter's top-track, where we then hung the sliding shutter from this support. The resultThe resulting security shutter and support system all in black, create a clear open space when the Coffee Shop is open, and a classy secure area with the shutter closed.

Over the last few years there have been some major upgrades to the road network connected with the A1/M11 area. Over this time the services at Peterborough, Cambridge and Baldock have all been refurbished.Sliding security shutters to retail storesAs part of these works we have installed our Flexiglide Vision Glass polycarbonate sliding security shutters to the retail stores at all three services. Why traditional roller shutters were not the best optionDue to the size of the openings (around seven metres wide), combined with the limited headroom, traditional roller shutters weren’t the best option. So we had to look at an alternative.FlexiGlide shutters can span any width and need very little headspaceFlexiglide sliding shutters need very little space at the top (only 42mm) and can span any width. So they were a perfect answer to both the limited headroom to the shops, as well as the wider openings.Standardised design, manufacture and installationAll three services areas were the same, which made the design, manufacture and installation easy for our engineers. And as a bonus, with these being major motorway service areas, there was plenty of parking at each site (which can sometimes be a challenge, especially when we’re fitting sliding shutters in busy city centres like Birmingham and Edinburgh).Security shutters for curved openings, wide openings, and openings with limited headroomFlexiGlide sliding shutters are the best choice when you have to secure an opening that's:Extra wide; our sliding shutters can span any widthCurved; we can make FlexiGlide shutters follow almost any curveWith very limited headroom; a FlexiGlide shutter needs only 42mm height for the top-track (which can even be recessed)

Footlocker Highcross Shopping Center Leicester - FlexiGlide Vision Air

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

Highcross Shopping Centre Leicester has some of the UK’s biggest brands, and Footlocker is one of them. The store was being fitted out by a professional contractor, and as part of this work our FlexiGlide Vision Air perforated shutter was used for the shop's entrance. As with most shopping centres across the UK, we delivered the shutter out of hours when the centre was closed, and then installed it the following day. This way there was minimal disruption for the shopping public at Highcross.Footlocker chose our micro perforated shutter in white, because the small perforations allows the shutter still to be see-through, while preventing anyone from putting their hands through it.Photos FlexiGlide Vision Air at Footlocker LeicesterThese pictures show the shutter right after it was installed. At this point the main contractor still had work to do around our sliding shutter, to make it fit in completely with the rest of the store, so this is of course not yet the final look of the store-entrance. However, the photos show clearly how the shutter is installed and works in relation to the rest of the opening. Why we delivered our sliding shutter out of hoursWe typically deliver and install security shutters in shopping centres out of hours, when the centre is closed. This minimises disruption to shoppers and businesses and is also safer. Installing a shutter during regular shopping hours would require blocking off the area around the installation site, which would limit access to nearby stores and could potentially cause safety hazards.By delivering and installing the shutter out of hours, the installation can be completed quickly and efficiently without causing any disruption to shoppers or businesses. This also allows us to work without any time pressure and in a safer environment, reducing the risk of any accidents and errors.Additionally, installing a security shutter out of hours can help maintain the aesthetic appearance of the shopping centre, as the installation process can be somewhat messy and disruptive. By completing the installation outside of regular shopping hours, we can clean up before the centre reopens to the public.

We often make a big thing of the larger projects we work on and the specialist shutters that we make and install. But we can’t forget the everyday shutters that we are making and installing week in week out.An aluminium K25 manual operated servery roller shutterCharmouth Village Hall is a perfect example of one of those jobs that get forgotten in the mix of work we do. An aluminium K25 manual operated roller shutter fitted to the servery in the village hall was not complicated or exciting, but it was a perfect low-cost option for the project. We will always find the most appropriate, best price roller shutter for your project. The advantages of a lightweight aluminium roller shutterAluminium roller shutters are lightweight and roll up into a small box. They can be painted in any colour and can be either electrically or manually operated. Compared to steel roller shutters they are less heavy and take up less space. This makes them ideal for domestic and light commercial purposes. Aluminium roller shutters are also often used as office roller shutters.

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

A high end bungalow development in Hertfordshire. The architect builder on the project was doing a complete refurbishment and required roller shutters to match the look of this contemporary family-home.For various reasons, the K25 aluminium roller shutter was the best choice. Made from extruded aluminium, the K25 is strong, but lightweight. It also rolls up into a small box, which can be hidden from view.Header box hiddenThe most important detail for the client was that the header boxes were all hidden. The security shutters also had to operate quietly, be easy to maintain, let in light when closed, and match the building's modern look.Recessed guiderailsIn addition to the hidden header boxes, guiderails were also partly recessed to further help minimise the shutters' appearance when not in use.High end residential projectWe were very happy to be invited on this high end residential project. Working with the project's architect we came to a solution for the home's roller shutters that strikes a perfect balance between elegance and security.

O2 Arena London - Vision Guard Sliding Shutters

O2 Arena London - Vision Guard Sliding Shutters

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

The O2 arena is the first purpose built music venue in London since the Royal Albert Hall was built in 1871. Located in Greenwich on the banks of the River Thames, it's an iconic building, and we've had the joy of installing a set of FlexiGlide sliding shutters to the bars at the O2.The choice for FlexiGlide sliding shuttersThere are 3 large bar areas in the shape of long, curved islands. These needed to be closed off and secured when not is use. Traditional roller shutters wouldn't work due to the bars' rounded designs. Flexiglide sliding shutters turned out to be perfect for the job as they are horizontally driven, lightweight and able to accommodate curves. This meant that that the shutters enclosed the island bars fully whilst also offering security and easy operation.Vision Guard sliding shutters to bar islandsThe Flexiglide Vision Guard sliding shutters were specified to close off the 3 isolated island bars for the main O2 event area. The overall lengths of the shutters are one of 20 metres, and two of 15 metres each.Vision Guard shutters were the logical choice, because they are strong as well as lightweight (tap the photos for a larger version).Sliding security shutter challengesThis was a challenging project as there was no support in place and the ceiling height was over 4 metres high. On top of that there was a multitude of structures such as HVAC and lighting, in the way of the shutter support. The main challenge was bringing support through the HVAC and lighting supports, to hold the sliding shutters in place. This was achieved through a mixture of Unistrut and timber support coming down from the ceiling beam at irregular intervals. The design involved a structural engineer and our engineer team to create a suitable design to hold the shutters in place. To add the challenge, once we had worked out all the supports to the shutters, new retail structures had been created on the bar which caused an additional redesign before installation. Why FlexiGlide sliding shutters were the perfect solutionThe bar-islands that the shutters needed to enclose are located away from walls and other supports. In practise this meant that traditional roller shutters could never work, because there was nothing to fix them to.FlexiGlide sliding shutters are top-hung and don't need any support on the side. They lock into floorsockets at regular intervals, creating a secure curtain. When not in use they slide out of the way, leaving the opening completely free.Additional advantagesFlexiGlide sliding shutters can follow any curve, so they are perfect for rounded and curved openings; Our sliding shutters are made from strong but lightweight aluminium, so they need much less support than traditional roller shutters;FlexiGlide shutters hang down from a 42mm high top-track. Compared to roller shutters (that typically need around 300mm at the top) this is a minimum amount of headroom; We supply sliding shutters in various designs, from fully closed off to completely transparent and everything in between. There's always a sliding shutter that will work well in your situation.FlexiGlide sliding shutters work without the need for a bottom track. So there is nothing on the floor for people to trip over.

Roller Shutter Engineers Deliver Perfect Security Solution for Bellway Homes' New Development Car Park

HVP Security Shutters Ltd

We were approached by Bellway Homes to provide a secure shutter solution for their new development in Reading. The Renaissance housing development's main block car park has 90 spaces for the residents of the new complex, and needed to be secured with a roller shutter. As a leading provider of roller shutters, we knew that we could deliver a product that would meet their needs and expectations.Fully Automated Car Park Roller ShutterAfter discussing their requirements and examining the space, our team recommended a fully automated roller shutter as the ideal solution for this project. The roller shutter provides a high level of security and durability, protecting the car park from potential intruders and harsh weather conditions.Heavy Duty MotorTo ensure that the shutter could handle the heavy usage and weight of the materials, we used a 3-phase, 100% rated motor. This motor is a reliable and durable option for roller shutters that require heavy-duty operation and high levels of reliability. Our engineers carefully installed and tested the shutter to ensure that it met all of the client's requirements. We take pride in every project we undertake, and this one was no exception. Our skilled engineers worked diligently to ensure that the shutter was installed to the highest standards, and we were thrilled to see the completed project meet and exceed the client's expectations.Overall, we are pleased to have delivered another fantastic job for our client, Bellway Homes. We are confident that our fully automated roller shutter with a 3 phased 100% rated motor will provide the residents of the new development with a secure and reliable solution for years to come.Considerations for car-park roller shuttersRoller shutters for car parks should have several safety features to ensure the safety of people and property. Some of the important safety features that roller shutters for car parks should have are safety edges and photoelectric sensors.Safety edgesA safety edge is a pressure-sensitive strip that detects when an object is in the way of the shutter. On contact with the strip, a signal is sent to the motor, which will immediately stop the shutter and prevent it from closing further, reducing the risk of injury or damage to property.Photoelectric sensorsThese sensors detect movement and can sense when someone or something is in the way of the shutter. They can trigger an automatic shutdown of the shutter, preventing any further movement that could cause harm or damage.A heavy duty motorA 3-phase 100% rated motor is typically used on roller shutters when the shutter requires a high level of reliability and durability, and when there is a need for heavy-duty operation, such as with car-parks. This type of motor can handle continuous operation for extended periods without overheating or failing.

Both are security shutters, but the fundamental difference is that rolling shutters open and close vertically, while sliding shutters operate horizontally.Roller shutters are generally used to secure rectangular openings such as windows and doors. Sliding shutters on the other hand tend to be used for openings where a roller shutter doesn't really make sense, such as very wide openings, or curved openings.Vision Guard sliding curved shutter in whiteAlong with roller shutters we supplied and installed our FlexiGlide Vision Guard sliding, curved shutter in white. These openings are generally high and wide to give a beautiful sense of open space and be as inviting as possible to shoppers. In modern shopping centres the entrances to shops are also often gently curved. This makes a for a very elegant opening into the shop, but also one that's difficult to secure with a traditional roller shutter.FlexiGlide sliding shutters for Slim Chickens restaurantsAs Slim Chickens expand its restaurants across the UK, they have opened in a couple of shopping centres that specify our FlexiGlide sliding shutters.Reasons for FlexiGlide sliding shuttersA sliding shutter can be an excellent choice to secure a wide and high restaurant entrance for several reasons:FlexiGlide shutters can span any width, so a wide opening is no problemOur sliding shutters have a low top-track (under 2 inches high), so the entrance can keep its inviting lookFlexiGlide shutters lock into the floor using unobtrusive floor-sockets. We believe our sliding shutters fulfill both of these needs.FlexiGlide sliding shutters are practical, as they provide quick and easy access to the desk area while also ensuring security. Additionally, the chain-link design allows for ample airflow and light, creating a welcoming and comfortable reception area for staff and visitors alike. Why reception desk security is importantA reception desk is often the first point of contact for visitors to a building, and it's important to ensure the safety and security of the staff working there as well as any sensitive information or valuables stored in the area. One way to improve reception desk security is by installing a sliding security shutter.A sliding security shutter can be quickly and easily closed to provide a physical barrier between the reception desk and the public areas of the building. This can prevent unauthorized access, protect valuable items such as computers or cash registers, and provide an added layer of security for staff members working at the reception desk.In addition to providing physical security, a sliding security shutter can also be designed to match the aesthetic of the reception area. This means that the shutter can blend seamlessly into the overall design of the space, without detracting from its appearance.Overall, a sliding security shutter can be an effective way to improve reception desk security without sacrificing aesthetics.

These shutters, finished in white, were selected to address the unique spatial constraints present within the facility.Limited headspaceThe decision to use Flexiglide's Vision Air shutters was driven by the need for a security solution that could operate effectively within limited headspace.Unlike traditional roller shutters, the Flexiglide system can function optimally in spaces where overhead clearance is restricted. This was particularly pertinent in the case of Camden Arts Centre, where conventional roller shutters were not feasible due to the absence of sufficient overhead space. An ideal fitThe Vision Air Sliding Shutter, characterized by its 50mm top track, proved to be an ideal fit for the limitations encountered at Camden Art Centre. This design feature enabled the shutters to operate smoothly and efficiently within the confined space available, ensuring seamless functionality without compromising on security.
