Broadwalk House

Broadwalk House

In Opera (UK) Limited

The refurbishment was created with a light touch but transformed the main building entrance and reception, upper-floor common areas, WCs and half of the office floors. Work was undertaken whilst the other office floors remained in occupation. The reception refurbishment reused many of the existing high-quality materials, which complements terrazzo, but also helped to transform the space into a contemporary interior whilst retaining the grandeur and sense of arrival.Terrazzo is also in harmony with the edgier interventions such as the distressed metal ceiling raft and lighting which have contributed to the building appealing to the next generation of banking tenants with start-up bank Monzo taking the vast majority of vacant space in the building. The gentle approach to refurbishment and the reuse of materials as well as the use of terrazzo contributed to meeting British Land’s exacting sustainability targets.

Exchange Square

Exchange Square

In Opera (UK) Limited

Exchange Square, designed by DSDHA, is a refurbishment of a major 1.5-acre public park above the tracks of Liverpool Street Station in London. Our terrazzo was supplied throughout, including water features, amphitheatre steps, paving and planter edges with complex 3D pieces. The challenge for In Opera was to provide over 3000 pieces, 90% of which were unique and many having to fit into each other perfectly. The 1.5-acre park will see a four-fold increase in the amount of planting and dramatically enhance biodiversity, with 25% of the area featuring green space that is accessible to all.Quadrupling the amount of green space at Broadgate, the aim is to boost the emotional and physical well-being of those that work at Broadgate and the local community while supporting British Land’s commitment to sustainability and biodiversity. We are proud to have been involved in such a major development, which aims to draw people together and help the communities thrive in a better environment. What was once a dark uninviting space has been transformed into a light and welcoming place where people can truly live, where communities and businesses can thrive, and that helps the planet to flourish. It is a more attractive, less corporate environment for Broadgate, which creates places to dwell, not just pass through.

The new London Awards 2019 Retail category winner, is the only Arcade on Regent Street. The development has breathed new life into this Grade II listed building.Part of the transformation was designing a stunning and inviting tiled floor space, which replaced the previous Regent Street column. InOpera Group closely collaborated with the architect BARR GAZETAS to create a beautiful terrazzo tile floor that complemented the aesthetics of the new entrance. The redesigned arcade features two floors of retail and an internal floor area of 3650 sq m. To maximise the 90-year-old building’s retail potential a large column situated centrally at the arcade’s entrance was removed, and replaced with elegant curved glazing and beautiful captivating flooring leading into the arcade. The intricately designed flooring that pays homage to M.C. Escher’s box artwork design. It consists of four cement-based Architectural terrazzo tiles: Ecru, Ghiaccio, Grafite, to form the ‘box’ design and Carbone to trim the edge of the flooring. The redeveloped arcade has achieved an ‘Excellent’ rating against the BREEAM UK Refurbishment and Fit Out 2014 methodology.

Quay Quarter Tower

Quay Quarter Tower

In Opera (UK) Limited

We are proud to have been a part of the Quay Quarter Tower project, located in the heart of Sydney, Australia. We had the opportunity to work with Tom Dixon’s Design, who specified our bespoke resin based terrazzo, having been commissioned by AMP Capital for their first major Australian interior design project. The terrazzo was fitted by Deemah Stone, and features curved facades that lend a sense of grandeur and style to the lobby. The design was intended to create a futuristic workplace and meeting space for the residents of the tower, and we believe that our terrazzo perfectly captures that vision. The Quay Quarter Tower project was completed in 2021, and has already become a landmark in the Sydney skyline. This iconic tower, designed by architects 3XN, is a stunning example of modern architecture and a testament to the innovative spirit of Sydney. The tower is a mixed-use development, featuring office space, luxury apartments, and retail space, all designed to create a vibrant and dynamic community. We are pleased to note that the Quay Quarter Tower project has received numerous awards and accolades since its completion in 2022. The tower won the World Building of the Year Award in 2022, as well as the International Highrise Award’ 22/23 and MIPIM Award for Best Office & Business Project. These awards recognise the innovative design and use of materials in the tower, as well as its impact on the Sydney skyline. In addition to these awards, the Quay Quarter Tower has also been recognised for its sustainability features. The building has achieved a 6 Star Green Star Design and As-Built rating, the highest possible rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. This rating recognises the building’s commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. We are proud to have contributed to the success of the Quay Quarter Tower project and to have worked alongside a talented team of architects, designers, builders and specialist stone masons. We look forward to continuing to work with architects and designers around the world to create innovative and inspiring spaces that push the boundaries of what is possible.

The Body Studio, Selfridges

The Body Studio, Selfridges

In Opera (UK) Limited

The Body Studio encompasses over 3,400 square meters of retail luxuriousness at London department store Selfridges. It is not only the largest department in the famous building on Oxford Street but also was described ‘as the world’s most ambitious architectural transformation’ of a heritage department store’.InOpera Group supplied custom-made Venetian terrazzo with white marble chippings, in the courtyard, near the escalators.Chinese studio Neri&Hu, which has offices in London and Shanghai, was tasked to overhaul and transform the area in a bid to ‘re-imagine’ the way women shop for everything bodywear. The retail complex also offers a beauty salon and a cafe. The founders of the studio, Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu combined Japanese and Californian design references for their concept, aiming to create an environment that was neither too sexy nor too boring.Within the department different types of clothing are displayed in their own spaces, where similar types of materials are used in a variety of ways, creating a series of pockets that shift in atmosphere, light and materials. For instance, a prominent element in the loungewear area is the backlit Japanese paper screens – known as shoji – with bamboo-effect frames, oriental lanterns above the escalators, and surrounded by grey terrazzo floor. The terrazzo we’ve created has a cement base and honed finish. From a utilitarian perspective, the material is suitable for high-traffic areas. Whereas the large marble chippings with organic shapes complement the airy, calm and zen atmosphere that the architects aimed to achieve.Terrazzo is a very versatile material when it comes to design. When creating a custom material, the architects have the flexibility of combining marble chips of various sizes and colours to get the desired effect. The product is then refined, through various treatments and finishes, to meet the technical and safety requirements of a given project.

The Royal Academy of Arts

The Royal Academy of Arts

In Opera (UK) Limited

Burlington House has been a home of the Royal Academy of Arts, the oldest art school in Britain, since 1867. Over the years this canonic site has seen impressive additions by a number of acclaimed architects. Continuing this rich history, in 2018, David Chipperfield Architects completed a major redevelopment of the building, delivering a brand new home to the RA.InOpera Group supplied and installed the terrazzo floors for the major parts of this new space, including Benjamin West Lecture theatre, Cast Corridor, Collection Gallery, hallways and staircases leading to the galleries, and public restrooms. In 2001, the RA purchased Burlington Gardens, the building that sits right behind the Burlington House. Since then, they’ve embarked on a bold masterplan to join the two buildings together for the first time in history. The project was undertaken by, none other than, David Chipperfield Architects. The practice has won more than 100 international awards and citations for design excellence, including the RIBA Stirling Prize in 2007 for The Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach, Germany. With the bold reconfiguration, they’ve created new workshops, library and more studio space for the Schools. Existing spaces, which were built in 1870, were restored to maximize space and light, with improved access and circulation. The requirements for the floor materials prioritised high-traffic endurance, slip-resistance and design that will blend in with the existing interiors of the buildings, which are rich with natural stone and classical elements. For this project, we supplied custom-made cement-based terrazzo with two types of finishes. The polished finish was installed for the gallery spaces, and the honed for the areas with more traffic. The material guarantees even colouration and consistent texture throughout the entire floor area. For the Benjamin West Lecture Theatre, staircases were carved out from custom-sized terrazzo blocks.
