Drainage layer | BauderGREEN DSE 40 drainage board.Guidance for specification option: Ideal for higher levels of trafficking. PE-HD water storage and multi-directional drainage layer. Used on roofs 0–5° finished falls. Loose laid (open profile cup up) on to the Protection Layer (or WFRL on inverted roofs) over completed waterproofing to provide continuous drainage within hard and soft landscaping. It is primarily used where the load is moderate to high, such as extensive and intensive green roofs. Its compressive strength makes it suitable beneath paving laid on sand/cement or gravel bedding or within planter beds. Boards are to be interlocked by a minimum of one profile cup and all board joints staggered. The ‘X’ stamped impression on the highpoint of the cup moulding indicates where boards overlap. Cut to fit closely around penetrations and outlets.
The drainage/ water storage board also provides a suitable base surface for building concrete or brick kerbs/ walls. The specified infill haunching should be installed over the board to the required depth of cover, poured directly into the profile cup of the board. These should be constructed to provide an adequate support for the raised masonry planters. BauderGREEN DSE 60 drainage board.Guidance for specification option: Ideal for heavy trafficking and higher weight loads. PE-HD water storage and multi-directional drainage layer. Used on roofs 0–5° finished falls. Loose laid (open cups down) on to the Protection Layer (or WFRL on inverted roofs) over completed waterproofing to provide continuous drainage within hard and soft landscaping. Provides a pressure resistant stable base for high loads or support for roof mounted equipment without compression to the drainage capacity. If DSE60 is filled with Bauder Mineral Drain, it provides a robust temporary finish able to accept site traffic, including vehicles. Boards should be tightly overlapped at the edges and staggered.
Filter membrane | BauderGREEN FV 125.Guidance for specification option: Fine mesh PP geotextile. Bauder Filter Fleece is used here to separate the board fill from the bedding layer. It prevents fine material from being washed out of the bedding layer into the board fill/ drainage layer. Loose laid over the drainage layer. Fleece joints should be overlapped 150 mm. Fleece should not be taken over the top of drainage outlets. Upstands (Hard landscaping): Extend to top of perimeter abutments and trim flush just below finished surface level.

Waterproofing | Bauder Total Green Roof System Roof Covering System. Bauder Total Roof System Roof Covering System. Bauderflex Green Roof System. Bauderflex Roof System. Bauder LiquiTEC Cold Liquid Applied Roof System. Manufacturer guidanceTo be fully specified separately. |
Board fill layer | 2–5 mm crushed gravel. Guidance for specification option: Supplied by others. 2–5 mm crushed and washed angular gravel aggregate (no fines) supplied by others as granular fill. Applied directly to the water storage/ drainage board, filling the profile cups to a level flush with the upper crowns of the board and eliminating any hollows. Allowance should be made for any settlement that may occur. Depending on size and access of the project, the specified granular fill can be supplied by the manufacturer by various methods i.e. big bags, tipper truck or via a silo lorry pumping directly onto the roof area. Prior to costing this element of the installation the 'Bauder Approved Contractor' should contact Bauder Ltd so that they may help to advice on the best solution, specific to any contract. BauderGREEN SUB-MD UK mineral drain aggregate. Guidance for specification option: Lightweight, single size stone used in Bauder DSE60/ DSE40 Drainage and Protection Layer. This substrate provides an ecological drainage method for green roof systems. Additionally, it provides aeration qualities with some inherent water retention. Applied directly to the water storage/ drainage board, filling the cellular troughs to a level flush with the upper crowns of the board and eliminating any hollows. Allowance should be made for any settlement that may occur. Depending on size and access of the project, the specified granular fill can be supplied by the manufacturer by various methods i.e. big bags, tipper truck or via a silo lorry pumping directly onto the roof area. Surface finish | Paving supplied by others. Guidance for specification option: Paving slabs/ suitable pavers to be laid on to the specified bedding layer, as specified by the architect/ landscape designer and strictly in accordance with their specific recommendations regarding the layout in keeping with the landscape design. Setting out: Minimize cutting. Joints: Left open for drainage. The size of the joints to be in accordance with the client’s requirements. These open joints may be controlled by using either proprietary spacers or using suitable strips of cut tile of the correct thickness or similar, to control the gap size.
Slabs must be level and stable. |
Maximum Slope | 5°. |
Bedding layer | 2–5 mm, crushed and washed angular gravel aggregate (no fines), supplied by others. Guidance for specification option: (To be installed over the Bauder Filter Fleece where Bauder Mineral Drain has been used as a board fill). Apply evenly over to provide a level finish. Depth to be a minimum of 30 mm, but not exceeding 50 mm. Provision should be made for containing the bedding layer at all abutments to ensure that loose gravel particles do not drop into the area beneath the drainage layer, where they may wash into the outlets i.e. use perforated aluminium retention angles or abutment kerbs. Perimeter edge and abutment restraint: It is important that provision is made to support and retain the board fill and aggregate bedding layer within the construction at abutments, by adopting one or both of the following methods (dependent upon the nature of the construction. 1.Concrete kerb bedded in concrete off of the drainage board layer or perforated stainless steel or aluminium angle bolted together and inserted below the drainage layer. 2.Angles made from aluminium should be 1.5–2.5 mm or stainless steel 1–1.5 mm thickness should be used. The opposite side of the angle should be supported by a 20/ 40 mm pebble vegetation barrier of approximately the same depth as the landscape construction. If the roof fall is zero degrees, it is advisable to create the falls within the bedding layer, so rainwater run-off is directed to the outlets/ drainage point. |
Accessories | Not required. BauderGREEN ER MR 150/60 linear drain and grill plate. Guidance for specification option: Bauder galvanized steel Linear Drainage System, is used to allow free drainage in key locations. The KH60 Drainage System is designed to be used around doorways, thresholds and changes in landscape finishes. The system is available with stop ends and connecting clips.
