Application

The Janus C4 I/O Blade is particularly useful for expanding the functionality of a Janus C4 system without overhauling the existing setup, making it suitable for expanding or customizing installations. Typical applications include:

  • Security: monitoring door states, intrusion detection, and alarm systems.
  • Building automation: integration with HVAC, lighting, and other environmental systems for energy efficiency and management.
  • Industrial control: can be used to interface with machinery, access control systems, or custom sensor setups.

Description

The Janus C4 I/O Blade is a hardware module used within the Janus C4 access control and building management system. It is designed to extend the system's capabilities by providing additional input and output (I/O) ports for monitoring and controlling various devices within a facility.

The Janus C4 I/O Blade is a plug-in unit that can be purchased with either the Janus C4 Single-Blade Controller (Part No: JC4-ADV-C2-SNG) or the Janus C4 Multi-Blade Controller (Part No: JC4-ADV-C2-MLT).

Each I/O blade enables the connection of up to eight supervised inputs and eight volt-free relay outputs. Clearly labelled connectors simplify the task.

Features and benefits:

  • Inputs: the I/O Blade supports multiple digital inputs, allowing it to monitor various sensors and devices such as:
  • Door position sensors: to detect whether a door is open or closed.
  • Request-to-exit (RTE) buttons: for user-initiated exits.
  • Motion sensors: for detecting movement in controlled areas.
  • Tamper or intrusion alarms: to alert when unauthorized access or manipulation is detected.
  • Outputs: multiple relay outputs for controlling external devices, such as:
  • Alarms: for triggering security alerts.
  • Lock control: for locking/unlocking doors.
  • Lighting or HVAC control: for integration with building automation systems.
  • Other custom outputs: for triggering actions based on sensor input.
  • Each output relay is typically configurable for normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) operation, offering flexibility for various types of connected devices.
  • The I/O Blade is fully integrated into the Janus C4 system, ensuring seamless communication with the central controller or software platform.
  • It communicates over a network (typically TCP/IP) and can be remotely monitored and configured.
  • The I/O Blade allows for system expansion without the need to replace the main controller, making it easy to scale a security and building management setup as needs grow.
  • Add more I/O Blades to accommodate additional devices or more complex configurations.
  • The I/O Blade supports event-driven actions, such as triggering alarms when a door is left open or activating lights when motion is detected.
  • This automation can be configured directly through the Janus C4 platform to respond to specific input conditions in real-time.
  • The I/O Blade is designed to be compact and modular, making it easy to install in existing setups without significant disruption.
  • It can be mounted in standard racks or panels alongside other system components.
  • The Blade offers flexible configuration options, allowing users to customize input and output behavior, including response times, trigger actions, and fault monitoring.
  • Compatible with a wide range of devices and sensors that use standard digital signals (e.g., dry contact inputs), making it a versatile choice for various applications.
  • Can also integrate with third-party devices or systems for building automation, alarm monitoring, and other use cases.
