Application

For indoor use and outdoor use without direct exposure to weather.

SPAX WIROX cylindrical head 'construction use' screws are the solution for various joinery projects using wood:

  • replaces angle connectors.
  • cross tension reinforcement.
  • higher component load factor possible.
  • lateral pressure reinforcement.
  • higher forces can be transferred.
  • reinforcement of dowel pin connections.

Description

The cylindrical head construction screw with high corrosion protection that can replace an angle connector.

Features and benefits:

  • Full thread.
  • T STAR plus bit recess.
  • No pre-drilling required (depending on wood).
  • 4CUT point ensures safe fastening with low effort, reduces splitting of the wood and reduces the screwing-in torque required.
  • Quick and safe fastening.
  • Mills into the wood.

The special power drive – T-STAR plus – is a so-called hexalobular socket. Compared to less precise drive types such as Philips or Phillips, the contact surface of T-STAR plus is significantly larger, and the T-STAR plus bits always fit perfectly in the screw head. The resulting optimal, precise power transfer from screwdriver to screw with the T-STAR plus enables simple and extremely fast work, and is significantly more efficient than with any other drive.

  • In contrast to the flat head, which transfers the tensile forces of the screw across a larger area of the wood via its large underside, the narrow cylinder head does not have to fulfil this task at all. With its size, which only provides space for the force application with T-STAR plus , the cylinder head can be completely countersunk into the wood, thus offering the possibility of creating largely invisible screw connections very easily. The tensile forces acting on a screw in timber construction are completely transferred into the wood via the full thread of the cylinder head screw. If cylinder head screws are installed horizontally - for example as decking screws on a wooden terrace - they must only be screwed in flush with the surface to prevent water from collecting in the screw hole and damaging the wood.
  • In contrast to a partial thread, the full thread on most of SPAX’s full-thread screws extends the entire length, or almost the entire length, from the tip to the head. The more threads a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces it can absorb. SPAX take advantage of this, especially in structural timber construction, where full-thread screws are used for heavy-duty wood connections.
  • The 4CUT designation for the tip of the screws refers to the fact that it is not round, but square. These four edges displace the wood fibres during screwing, creating space for the screw's core diameter. This effectively reduces the otherwise unavoidable expansion pressure exerted by the core in the wood, preventing the wood from splitting open near the edges. The torque required by the cordless screwdriver is also reduced, as the screw core doesn't have to "squeeze" into the wood.
  • For structures in non-weathered outdoor areas, effective corrosion protection for screws is essential. SPAX has developed WIROX , a coating that is superior to conventional galvanization in terms of protection and durability. WIROX-coated screws are significantly more resistant to mechanical stress than their yellowish chromated counterparts. WIROX does not contain chromium (VI), so the screws are not only just as resilient even after years of use outdoors, not directly exposed to the weather, but are also completely environmentally friendly. WIROX screws are the first choice for all open structures without direct weather exposure, such as carports or pergolas. However, for particularly harsh weather conditions, such as patio areas, the manufacturer still recommend their stainless steel screws.
